I'm trying to get a show of hands who have raced other cars. I havent bought a Z yet and havent decided if I'm gonna get one. Currently I own a Busted up E46 M3 that has a blown motor. Has any one raced at least a 330 BMW or maybe even a Subaru WRX????
I'm kinda worried guys, I have been test driving 350Z's but I havent driven one that is "FAST". To me It feels like 200HP.
Help me out here guys, please tell me you've atleast smoked an S2000.

200hp's?! I dunno bout that. Have you gotten a chance to stretch the car's legs during the test drives or did you spend the whole time under 4k rpm? I can tell you that this car feels just about as fast as my last car, the BMW M-Coupe (with the 240hp engine). More importantly this car handles awesome, even in stock form.

The Z averages 240 HP at the wheels. It is far more than 200 HP. It makes 200 Flywheel HP at about 4000 RPM. You get about a 60 HP kick from 4000-5000 RPM. Motortrend ran a 13.9 with a brand new engine, few tank of fuel, and average driver. The car is quick! Period!

uhhhhh....I didn't think so
Believe me, I was driving this sucker hard. I also requested to be alone with the car so that I can do so. (I didn't want the sales person to crap in his pants). To me it felt very weak. But then I'm use to driving my Busted E46 M3 that blew the engine because of my driving.

I doubt it was your driving that caused the engine to blow.

My cousin just recent had his 2k2 E46 M3 in for recall service to replace some parts. Many M3's were blowing engines because of some manufacturing detect. BMW is extending the warranty because of this issue. I think my cousin said that he now has a 7 year warranty on the engine.

yeah, exactly my problem.
The main bearings failed in my M3....7 years warranty and then what???? I'd rather have the Japanese reliability, although not that fast and prestigious, but I'm past the stage of showing off what I got. I'd rather be comfortable knowing that I have a solid car in the long run rather than a super high performance ticking time bomb. After all, cars are the worst investment.

It seems pretty simple to me. People keep asking if the 350 can kill this and kill that, when all you have to do is look at the car magazines. An S2000 has a very similar 1/4 mile time and trap speed to the 350Z so with equal driver talent, it would be a close race. Someone else asked if the 350 could beat a Z06. That was a really dumb question and I won't even go into why. I really love the posts where people claim to have killed or walked an E46 M3. Either the M3 driver wasn't trying or was a horrible driver. Since you had one you know that the M3 is faster than the 350Z.
So who have I killed? Well, I can tell the cars that have killed me. My aunt (who is 60 years old) smoked me in her Z06. My other aunt smoked me in her 1968 Vette. I've run against my friends 2003 M3 from a 2nd gear roll and his car slowly but surely pulls away, and no it's not the driver. We switch cars and I pull away from him in the M3. I dusted a Porsche 996 on Sunset Blvd., but on the same stretch of road I was wasted by a Porsche GT2. It's a little depressing that my 350 is slower than my last modded 300ZXTT (@ 19lbs of boost) but I know the cure will be a turbo kit. Until then, I'll just have to live with having a slow car.
Dude, are you sure you want to toss your M3 for a 350. I think you're crazy. How's this. You buy a 2003 M3, and I'll trade you for my 350Z Track.

I have to disagree with the S2000 and the Z being very close, but whatever!!! I have raced my cousin in his 97' Cobra, he spun through first and second too hard and I took the lead, but then he caught me and we were pretty much side by side until about 85mph, when we ran out or road. I did grab 1st, 2nd, and 3rd!! I raced a WRX from about 20mph until about 110mph, we were side by side until third, I started to pull ahead of him, and kept on pulling. I had a guy in a 02' Stang GT pull up beside me doing about forty or so, we took off and I slowly walked away. When we pulled up to the next light, he asked me if my ride was stock and I said yes, I asked him what happened to him after fourth, he said that he could take me off the line, but I would kill him on the top end, I said let's find out. The light changed and I grabbed 1st, 2nd,and 3rd, he had me by a half a car length or so, once I winded out third and got into fourth, I slowly pulled ahead of him!! I raced a VR-4 on the highway two days ago, starting from 80mph until about 125mph, I had the lead the entire ride!!!
It might seem like I never loose, but that is not true, I pretty much know what cars to race and what not to race, if it seems like a close race, I will take the chance and rely on my driving skills and cat-like reflexes My friend with an RR gave me a head start to about 50mph he was doing about 20mph, when I hit 100mph, he flew past me doing about 120mph!!!

The torque curve on this engine is very smooth cause it makes it w/o alot of tunning but with displacement. It wont suddenly pin u to your seat but will accelerate like a 287hp ~3100 lb RWD sports car.
From what I could feel, only about 75% of the horsepower is available before the 1200 mile break in. Go find a 350 with at least 5k miles and take it to a track if u can.

Don't Laugh
Car&Driver- S2000 1/4 14.9 Vs 350Z 1/4 14.3
I have been beat and have beaten 350z's. It is a drivers race and it all depends exactly where in the rpm band you are.
As far as the 14.9 that is retarded. Obviously The driver was a bean head. There are more time slips floating around showing 14 flat to 13.7 stock s2000's. I've been to the track where the best time for a 350z was 14.2 ...and the best time for a stock s2000 was 13.9. I've also been to the track and the best time for an s2000 was 14.7 and 13.8 for a 350z.
I agree That most likely the 350z stock for stock will beat an s2000. But it is no easy task and no gimme. After all the s2000 is almost four years out in the market without a change.
The 350z is a strong competitor for the money.
It is a shorter list on what ya won't beat for sure:
stock:
c-5
ls-1
m3
evo
sti
cobra
amg
gt2
viper
This is stock for stock!
Of course once people start modding this gets all throw out the window.
For a coupe the 350z is the best bang for the buck by far

the Z is a nice car for sure, but get real. if all you care about is having your brain liquified against the back of your skull every time you drop the go pedal go buy a new cobra.
