Default 350Z 5AT vs 00 Pontiac Grand Am GT

I raced my brothers Grand Am Gt with my Z before to 0-60 and beat him like 4car lengths. Well he thought it was going to be even to 40 but I had a full car length at that speed. He once raced a RSX-S 6sp and was even to 50. Also raced a 215hp Stang GT auto even to 70+.

Well, he is dillusional if he thought that.

I have both cars and even with an intake/borla exhaust/ASE chip there is no way my Grand Am would even be close to the Z even at 0-20!

Come on dude, a Grand Am!?! That would be like me running an Altima with the I-4. Be easy on him!

P.S. Grand Ams are actually pretty cool little cars.

I like mine, I use it as my daily driver.

The only way it could even get close to the Z is if you install a supercharger, which has crossed my mind, but too much money being spent on the Z right now.

Perhaps next time try racing a Grand Prix GTP & then let us know how did it went down. But, then again, wether it's auto or 6speed i am sure the Z can still beat the GTP very easily.

The new GTPs have the supercharged 260HP 3.8 and its a very stout car......those cars were hitting high 14s with the 240 horse motor so I'm sure they should be atleast in the mid 14s.....probably would give a 5 AT Z a good run.
I'm sure a simple pulley change that alot of those guys do would easily net them atleast low 14s if not high 13s. Probably would make for an interesting race.

When stock, the 350Z has a good advantage. The 350Z is a very high 13-low 14 second car, and the GTP is a high 14-very low 15 second car, but if we are talking modded, the GTP has much more of an advantage. A simple pulley swap in the GTP is good for about 40-50 hp and who knows how much torque, and if you add headers, full exhaust, intake, and some bolt-ons, they can easily become 13 second cars. The only thing you gotta watch out for on the GTPs is making sure you don't go overboard and killing the transaxle. But yeah, GTPs can become downright vicious with just a few simple bolt-ons.

I wish that were true man. Unfortunately the new 260 hp GTPs are just a few tenths faster then the old 240 hp GTPs. The main reason is that even though the horsepower has increased (240 to 260 hp), the torque has stayed the same (280 torque). I heard it is due to the fact that the GTP's tranny can only safely support 280 torque. But those cars are still lightning quick. The old 240 hp ones run anywhere from 14.7-15.1 when stock, and the new ones are good for high 14's from what I'm hearing. They are awesome little cars.

Just as a point of reference...my '00 GTP with 3.4" pulley, cold air kit, and mufflers ran 13.8 @ 98mph

Actually my friend has a 01 GTP(mod claims 290+hp) POS 3rd motor! Has a nos bottle.. He did 14.1 at the strip. Raced a 6sp Z and beat him like 2 car lengths to 100. The Z messed up his launch(fish tailed like crazy). I'm going to race him when he comes back from FL. Most manual drivers cant drive for sh*t and shouldnt even race anyone and make a fool out of themselves.

I never said I wanted to win, I would like to know how much faster my next car will be. I would hate for a Z to be slower than my Grand AM.

But from a dead stop a Mustang Auto cannot keep up and niether can a Toyota Matrix TRD.

I agree the V6 mustang is not a match for the GA, my son has one and it just doesn't keep up.

The Z just has so much torque and pull in the lower gears that it would leave the GA behind by quite a bit, haven't driven an AT Z bu I have heard they are very responsive as well.

By the way my bro 00 GA engine is a POS(leaking oil when driven hard) Only has 45,000miles well maintained. The intake gasket has a poor seal. Damn my Z first yr model is so far trouble free(8400miles).
