In the factory service manual it is required that you add sealer to the front of the valve cover. I had that leak, it was slow and actually would run to the back of the block. Good luck with the fix.

But the codes are still stored and TCS/Slip lights are on. Tomorrow I will remember to bring the laptop so I can at least clear them and see how it goes from there
I find the Service Manual to be the best source of information on OBD-2 codes, what Nissan calls Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). There is one DTC for the Crankshaft Position Sensor, P0335.

I scanned this page from my G35 Service Manual, but I have found most of the 350Z DTC's to be the same. The Service Manual lists the DTC's in numerical order and also by name. P0335 is the only CKP type of DTC listed. There is more information than what I scanned... I always like to see a picture.

To find these codes and other DTC information, look in the EC, Engine Control System section of the Engine manual.

Hope this helps...

thanks - the valvecover isn't leaking at all though, it's dry up there, actually dry all around the heads on both sides.

Thanks for the post -jb - I've got the factory service manual, problem is with all of these sensors, there really is no diagnosis. It's basically "if you get the code, replace the sensor". If the sensor is plugged in, there really is no reason for it not to read properly. So, since its easy to do, and they have been somewhat of a known issue, we just changed it yesterday. Now I have to clear the codes tonight and go from there

+1

I pulled the code... took the sensor off and cleaned it. It worked for about an hour and bam, I got the code again

Just a quick update and a favor to ask

We tried to clear the codes, to no avail. So on to the next thing

When monitering the car with the Cipher, I am getting 2 different VTC positions when looking at Bank 1 and Bank 2. They aren't significantly different at idle, but different none the less. When I step on the gas, say to around 1500 rpm, I get one VTC side giving a quick cycling that goes positive then back to negative..this corresponds immediately to the rpms bouncing up and down too. I don't see either solenoid moving at all though, even when I step on the gas. However, I don't know what it should look like. We pulled the connectors off both VTC solenoids while the car was running, and there was no change at all.

Can someone with a Cipher plug it in at idle and moniter the following real quick:

Intake cam solenoid #1 and 2 and Intake Cam Position for bank 1 and 2 This way I know what is different, if anything, between what my car is doing vs what it should do.

Thanks

Adam, I do apologize for OT'ing, but would you mind sharing a bit about your suspension setup, in terms of hardware/settings in the suspension forum, or here?
Thank you.

Adam,

It was great to meet you at Zdayz. Had I known who you were when we were talking outside the Louisiana guys' cabin, I would have known this thread is your N/A build you were talking to me about. I was following it pretty closely when you first started it. I thought about this thread when we were talking, but forgot to mention it.

Anyway, good luck on finding your oil leak. Like I said before, when you told me you've been driving your car with this build for about a year before you had any problems (oil leak) and the money you spent doing it (as compared to an F/I build), there aren't many F/I guys I've seen that can say they've been problem free for a year.

BTW, I was looking through my old Cipher logs, but I never logged any of the info you need. Sorry.

thanks dTor - yeah all told the build has treated me more than well. The relatively small issues we have here, have happened to guys with nearly stock cars as well, so it's nothing I'm too worried about. I just need the time to properly diagnose it lol

The above was us just revving the car while it sat (not driving). Basically what the above shows is that the VTC solenoids are not working at all - what causes that, I have no idea. We've already removed them, and inspected them and they were clean (no buildup inside at all). Even tried swapping one with a spare we had, and still no luck.

On the log John emailed me, you can see his solenoids working at certain rpm points, when just revving the car stationary

We unplugged the UTEC so are just running the factory ecu for now.
