It feels like I am shifting way to early 6600 rpm because it feels like its still building power. It never feels like the motor is running out of power and choking on the top end. I do notice it has alot more torque in the upper RPM bands. The car really accelerates alot harder from 60 to 120 when I am in the cams sweet spot...it makes this Z pull great on the highway.
Good job on the NA build. That baby looks and sounds sweet!

Earlier in this thread you mentioned you were going to get it tuned by the UpRev guys. Why don't you have them bump the rev limiter while they're at it?

Thanks...Yes I plan on raising the rev limiter to around 7600 rpm...depending on how high I make power.

This is the way go for a Z period. Its just flat out awesome, and it seems VERY streetable. It was idleing fine even low when i was watching, and its not even tuned yet..once its tuned im more than sure its gunna be totally reliable and streetable. Plus you'd be out less money than if you went with a decent turbo set-up that is streetable and reliable. Besides that idle itself is worth the money belive me.

I think he means for what I paid for the motor and installation vs going with a turbo kit with a built motor that its a better choice. I gave thefastestz a ride yesterday so he got to see first hand how hard the car accelerates on the top end. We will see how fast my car is by how bad I beat his EVO. LOL

Wow. Look at that lopey idle. Drool..............

I would love to build a similar N/A setup and I'm looking to your dyno results (before & after tuning).

Bought a 3" MAF housing from Z1 Performance (thanks!) Mod seems to have potential...ran very strong when the motor was cold and engine sound got deeper. Definitely needs a tune though but unfortantely I have to wait a couple of weeks until UpRev can get me in. I hopefully will get a baseline dyno on Thursday.

No not yet...called and made an appointment with UpRev...they said it would be around 2 to 3 weeks before they could get me in for the dyno tune. So its looking like middle of October. The car really needs a tune desperately. The car hiccups or bogs when going 100% throttle down around 2500 to 3000 rpm and really needs to raise the rev limit and idle. Hope I can gain significant power with the tune and by adjusting the cam angles.

I didn't realize Z1 actually sold the larger MAF tube. That's cool. Did you get your throttle body ported, too?

What rear end gears are you running?

No I am running the stock throttle body...didn't port it because I heard I may lose some more bottom end torque so I just put the larger MAF tube.

I am running stock 3.54 gears. Right now without the tune I can say the car really needs gears to get the car out of the hole quicker to compensate for the torque loss down low. I will probably still put 3.9 gears even if the tune picks up the power levels down low to stock levels.

Don't really remember the exact price...think it was like $125 shipped or something like that.

I alright...finally got my car dyno tuned by UpRev. They did an excellent job tuning and there tuning software is awesome! Those that have cams I would highly suggest letting them tune you car and adjusting your VTC cam angles...that is where I gained most of my power.

I put down 279 rwhp...not great but I did get a very good increase from the baseline of 24 rwhp. Most of the power came from adjusting the VTC cam angles and adjusting the A/F ratio. Adjusting the timing gained insignificant power. Probably gained just a couple of horsepower which I think is unusual. I will post the dyno charts when I get them emailed from UpRev. If I had gone with the Nismo VTC pullies I think I could have made significant amount of power. We only were able to advance the cams from a stock of 35 to 40 degrees and the power increase was over 10 hp in those rev ranges. I honestly think with more advance I could make a significant gain. I still am going to try putting a oversized throttle body to see if I can make any more power so more dynos to come.
