Default Hydraulic lifter buckets

Has anyone put a reground camshaft in their vq? The hydraulic bucket lifter should pump up to a smaller base circle camshaft. Specifically, I am looking at HR applications. In de's was there a limit on how much smaller you could make the base circle and still have the lifter make good contact? Input, if you have any experience or knowledge about this. Thanks.

The VQ does not have hydraulic lifters. The buckets come in different thicknesses to set the clearance. I have run Nismo heads in a VQ30 and a VQ35 and there is a tiny cap that fits over the top of the valve and the bucket then sits on the tiny cap to make up the clearance for the reground cam.

Thanks for the reply. I have not seen shim kits for sale with the cams for sale. I assumed this meant they were hydraulic. How much are shim kits for these engines?

The caps came with the heads so you might call Nissan Motorsports at 888-833-3225 and see if they are available.

there are a few things you could do if you want to regrind your cams. you could use longer valve valves, you could buy thicker "buckets", or you can buy the adjustable buckets from supertech (basically a bucket with various shims you can buy.)

....and as someone esle said, they are not hydraulic buckets in these engines.

Not sure if you got this sorted out yet, but I also found people selling bucket on ebay, and some Nissan tuning shops may keep some from past jobs they may be willing to sell/trade, otherwise they are $25-30 each. I also heard some guys didn't have to change a single bucket (maybe move a few around) with the cam changes. You won't know until you get the cams in the heads.
