Nathan didn't hit the nail on the head. He pounded it with a 40 lb mallet.

Hey Guys,

We are doing TWO seperate cam tests.

One with bolt-in cams that don't require upgraded valve springs, and then once the high compression engine is finished, one with upgraded valve springs designed for guys who are on the hunt for the most power possible.

We are planning to use some of the cams you've already mentioned!

Nathan, maybe you could have the guys from Down Under send us some cams from Kelford? I have never used their cams but have heard good things!

So test with Cams on a high compression engine with every bolt on known to man with a crazy modified plenum? I don't care. Didn't know there were so many members with this set up

<-----walks out.

So according to ur logic only built motor guys or high comp engines have cams? SFT. Hmm guess I need to go back to CIN Motorsports and have my cams uninstalled.

What's the max lift that can be achieved with stock pistons on the DE/HR?

If I'm not mistaken I think the problem becomes coil bind, and then head clearencing with stock pistons. I think coil bind is an issue around 11 mm but don't quote me on that one.

You mean valve spring clearance?

I'm not sure how you would have surmised that from my previous post but... umm ok.

Edit: Regardless of what motor these tests are conducted on I wish SG the best of luck and I look forward to how this will benefit the community.

I was under the impression the head clearencing refered to the lobes. On many engines with really radical cams the stock head just doesn't clear the lobes as they rotate. With stock pistons, the piston to valve clearence should only be a problem if there is an error made. But just the same its always a good idea to "clay" the setup.

Edit: I believe there is a threshold where valve float and bounce becames an issue for the stock springs as well. Its all related.

I am one of these members and appreciate the work that SG is putting into this project.

11mm is max lift IIRC on the DE, with a stock piston, not sure about an HR though (though I will know in the coming weeks as we're doing a little HR project)

I just finished putting together a revup for my car with Arias 11:1 pistons and the JWT C9 cams which are .516 lift (13mm). I am using stock heads with a port match and had to clearance the head around the buckets to clear. I am probably a couple of weeks away from getting it tuned and running so I will let you know how it does.
