Default Tease. (Cams)

The test has begun!

But I won't be able to give out the nitty gritty details until the results are published in Modified magazine. All I can say is it will be one very interesting test!

A few more pictures to come, but I'll keep you all updated on when we can publicly announce the results. Hopefully we don't have any mechanical problems before the test is finished!

Can I request that the testing/dyno be an engine dyno not a wheel dyno?

Sure, go pay for an engine dyno for them to use.

Wtf seriously?

I use engine dynos all the time. Its the same price as using a wheel dyno. If Sash would like to bring everything to Vegas I will set up a engine dyno for him. Using an engine dyno while his engine is out of the car, shouldn't be something for you to get upset about.

An engine dyno does not bring any more nor less validity to whatever the results may be

unlikely since NISMO does not make cams for a revup engine, unless I'm reading too much into the posted picture

my best guess

tomei 264, nismo r tune, jwt S1/S2

I wasn't sure since they are building a "higher comp" engine. Figured this test would be done on that engine.........or is it going to be on the existing motor in the car?

Well I hope Sasha has some time to work on my car with all this testing going on LOL.

I might have to go there this week regardless if my car is ready or not just to see and get the inside scope.

Hey guys, well two of the four sets are complete now.

The cams being tested are:

Nismo R-Tune
Tomei 256 / 10.5
JWT S1
and Stock non-revup of course.

The testing is being done on the racecar, which is a non-revup with every bolt-on you could throw at it. We figured the people changing their cams are the ones with all the bolt on modifications - and doing it this way eliminates all of the other bottle necks, so the power differences should be very evident between different cams.

Looking forward to results. Why 256's as opposed to 264's?

As this is a camshaft power comparison test being done for a Magazine & entails a lot of work to strip out, refit the camshafts & set the clearances ect, it is a great pity that you are not going to use new generation camshafts.

The chosen camshafts were all released over 7 years ago & even their makers ( Tomei & JWT ) only publish small increases in power in their advertised literature.
The 3 camshafts sets have aprox the same lift as the revup cams & only between 8 & 12 deg of increased duration over a revup.

As this test is to be done on a race motor, wouldn't it be a far more interesting test for both the Magazine & this site readers if the camshafts selected were of a more later release

In my opinion a test of Brian Crowers 272, Kelford 283, Nismo S1 or 2, JWT C8 or 9, Cosworth , Tomei 272 or 280? & GTM would be better
All of these cams have lift of 11.5 or above & would be what most 350Z owners would consider today if they were going to the expense of fitting.
I think you as a racecar owner would also have more interest in the later generation of camshafts

While I realize that there is a huge cost in buying the camshafts I have mentioned, maybe just maybe some of the vendors on this site could be persuaded to donate some sets (to be resold later @ a discount) or that we the members of my350Z could donate a few $ each for what I consider would be of huge interest.

Is the cam comparo being done on your new HC motor?
If so, even more reason to choose higher spec cams considering the huge effort that you have put in with intake & header experiments

Either way it turns out, Good Luck
