I am excited for it too, haha. I want to see power to about 7500+. I don't have high hopes, I am just waiting to see what the dyno says. If I make power to 7300, then that is my redline! I am hoping today will be the day I finally break that bolt loose on the flywheel and get the motor apart.

Thanks for sharing Tuko, honestly I think that is merely due to OEM FWD manifold. I don't know alot about the FWD intake, but I would guess its tuned for the low to mid range punch, sacraficing top end. This curve looks very similar to mine with bolt ons, an OEM DE lower with 5/16 spacer and stock cams to 6500, which would lead me to believe the curve (not output, still quite a bit of power to be had from there) is probably close to maxed out for the 238's.

(Disregard the red entry: The red line is with cams and built bottom-end limping on 5 1/2 cylinders)

Your manifold is kinda close to what I want to make. The tubes will go into a plate very much like yours, BUT a much bigger log on the manifold and the tubes will be going to the driver's side and the tb mouth will be pointing toward the stock airbox location. I will probably end up redoing the lower manifold too. So, basically the distance between the TB and the air filter will be about 6 inches. Enough for the TB, maf and then filter. I would LOVE to make an ITB set up but that is even more $$$

ANYWHO, I spent 3 solid hours drilling out the flywheel bolt yesterday. AND SUCCESS!!! it finally gave up and I think the flywheel will be fine! I got the engine on the engine stand and we cleaned the garage (much needed). Going to finish bagging the hardware, push the car out of the garage and tear the motor down today. Tomorrow I will be taking it all to the machine shop and this weekend I will be power washing the engine bay and assorted very dirty parts. I am looking forward to not doing much on the car this weekend, haha

My engine bay before cleaning up all the tools and hardware

My engine finally on the stand! AND the old tranny. My friend is getting the tranny for free for helping me, he is going to rebuild it and use it in his 406hp S13, that thing is so fast....

one of the pistons had the rings weld up and the piston was pretty much grinding on the block, I am taking it to the machine shop today.

Motor is in and can almost turn over, it needs some tuning and it will be good to go! I have an appointment on Thursday to get a dyno break in and tuning, I have a few pictures, but I forgot to bring my camera home.

Added a picture I had on facebook! It is not how it sits now, everything is installed except bumper and hood

I spent all day yesterday at uprev in Austin. They hooked it up to the smoker and both valve cover gaskets were messed up... put a dot of rtv in the corners of the valve cover gaskets to help stop it from falling out. Anywho, put it all back together and it fired right up... Got the break in oil in it and they went through the paces of breaking it in. After revving it for awhile, there was a tick coming from the drivers side cam timing chain area. After about 2-3 hours of trying to figure that out, they put it on the data logger and the oil control solenoid on top the head was throwing 0 signal and the wires was good. Unfortunately, it was about 5pm and they were calling it a day, so hopefully today or tomorrow to finish the job.

Alright, I haven't really updated this thread, been busy, BUT, I have 500 miles on the engine and I had to replace the driver's side intake cam gear... BUT it is running MUCH better now and I plan on getting a final tune in the next week. I will post up results when I get them.

It is done for the most part, just no interest in the thread, so I didn't bother updating, I have about 1500 miles on it, but it needs to get retuned, it is stalling alot and the low RPMs are rough to drive in. I am really disappointed by the tune that Uprev in Austin did... and I am not going to release numbers until they tune it right...

On a plus, I didn't change anything in the exhaust at all, and the cammed higher compression motor sounds ALOT better now. I am not going to dump a bunch of money into it to get alittle more hp NA, I am going to use what I got and set up for a supercharger in the future, $3k for 30-50hp or $5k for 100+ with a supercharger, haha

But there is a strong possibility I may just save up and put a built NA LS2 and aim for 500 RWHP. BUT, I need to buy a DD so that this thing can be a fun car rather than something I depend on driving everyday

How in the **** did I miss this? I think if you get it all tuned up good, you will be happy! Is there a secret to the valve cover gaskets or cam gear setup?

Did you ever get a final tune and your rough idle fixed?

to be honest, put the valve covers on before the engine goes in, otherwise, put a few dots of RTV between the valve cover and the gasket, it loves to fall out of the groove... The cam gear is just something that has been known to go bad after handling it. It sat in a baggy of dirty oil for 2 months, I am not sure if that caused it, but whatever you do, DO NOT OPEN IT!!!

I agree, I think a few tuning fixes and it will be right.

I am going in on Monday to get another round at the dyno.

ive never really had any issues with the gaskets coming out of the valve covers when putting them on. when you press the gasket in, it stays put pretty well inside the channel unless you snag a part of it on something when installing. but i put mine on when the motor was out. only makes sense lol.

get that bytch tuned!
