The secondary timing chain tensioners need to go on before I can put on the cam brackets. So can't torque down the cams yet. I could work on the bottom, but I travel a lot for work so I'm only home on the weekends for the next 2 months, it will get done eventually.

so, i am installing the cams the way the factory service manual says to. the left bank went fine, the dowel pins are lined up the way they are supposed to be without any of the lobes pushing down on the valve lifters. on the other hand, for the right bank, i had to install the cams 180* out, because there is no way im going to be able to install them when the lobes are pushing down on the valves. i have not torqued them down yet.
i guess my question is this, is it ok to leave the right bank 180* out, while im torquing them down? and then when i put the timing chains on, rotate them so they are correctly lined up? or is there another way that i should be doing this? here is a picture. the left bank (right side of this pic) is correct, and the right bank (left side of this pic) is 180* out. thanks

make sure the block is set to #1 tdc first off, just lay the cams down and they should find a spot where they all lay flat for the most part. all of the dowel pins should be facing up tho. then when you go to install the gears and chains you might have to use a wrench to turn them just enough to get them on the dowel pins. make sure you lube it all up good and tq to specs in the steps provided by the esm.

ok, im am ready to start putting it altogether, please list anything that i need to know what wont be in the fsm, things like
putting lube on head bolts to ensure proper torque
where to apply lube on the cams
what liquid gasket to use for timing covers
getting head to block surface very clean to prevent blown gaskets
etc.
i plan to take my time doing this, but just dont want to miss something that would be common sense to others.

on all the rotating parts. lol
i used hondabond....shyts dope. go to your local dealer. hopefully they can give you a deal on a couple tubes of it.
just make sure all surfaces are clean....which you've already done also.

Factory service manual I have doesn't call for all dowel pins up tho, and yea, it's at tdc now. The manual I have says in intake cams, dowel should be at the bottom, whats the deal with that?

Well, having the lobes on the #1 cylinder push down on the valves while at topdead center is a nono unless you like bent valves. I don't remember where the #3 and #5 pistons are at tdc
