Angry Help, rolling back anxiety.

Ok, got the groove back on driving a MT (after 7 years) no problems getting going on flat and small inclines. I can even squeal those tires if the need comes over me
I have found this car to be more difficult getting going on hills from a stop than any other manual trans I have ever driven.
Tonight coming home I got stuck on a very steep incline and was rolling back like crazy. I tried using the hand brake at the same time and it still was not working.
What advice can some of you experts give me to help me to get going without having a huge roll backwards. I have developed some anxiety over this as Quebec drivers love to get right up in your A@@ behind you.

Help!!! This is ruining my Z experience.

I was pretty nervous about rolling back when I first started driving stick. First night I got my manual car I just went to a hill to practice. This is what I do. Find a flat area to practice. There's a sweet spot where the clutch engages, if you find that spot, practice bringing it to that spot with some gas. When you get to a hill, you'll remember where that spot is and you won't roll back. Once you've got the hang of it, practice on a hill. Let yourself roll back a little and then stop yourself using the clutch and gas, repeat. Don't practice too much in one night though or you'll smell burnt clutch all the way home. Good luck man, and just keep at it. It'll come with time.

Your anxiety is totally warranted...the Z is pretty heavy so it starts rolling quickly on hills...that combined with a high clutch engagement point and a somewhat jumpy throttle (it's hard to hold the throttle at low revs) makes it difficult. Within a few days it won't be a problem though. Worst come to worst just raise the revs and let your clutch out...not the best for clutch life but if you drop the revs quickly after you hookup it shouldn't be a huge problem.

Just find that sweet spot on ur clutch and hold it there while on a hill.. u won't roll back and ull have the security of knowing if you do, just give it gas

Practice. The handbrake will work.

I remember when I first got my Z, I had the same problem. The two things I did were one completely avoid hills if possible (lol) or two and this may not be so smart but never go to nuetral on a steep hill, keep giving a tiny bit of gas and letting it roll back an inch, then back up an inch and so forth. People think you're insane rocking forward and back but at least you're not hitting anyone behind you. Oh make sure no cop or ricere is next to your, because they may think you're getting ready to take off. Just an idea. Though you'll eventually find that sweet spot and it'll be like second nature, no worries.

To me the Z is very easy on hills. My dad's 05 TL 6speed is a pain compared to my Z.

Thanks everyone,

I will try everyones suggestions.
I will also find a nice steep hill this weekend and practice to get the nerves out. I think that is mostly my problem at this point. I seem to get worried as soon as I see a car get in behind me.
The traffic has been so terrible in Montreal these last few days. I can not avoid the on ramps and sure enough I seem to get stuck on them.
