I get a lot of people asking me this since I JUST bought my Z!
I tell them I like the styling better...
I never drove the G35, what are your opinions?
What sold you on the Z vs. the G?

I simply wanted a pure sports car. Got two other rides with backseats so I didn't need another. Not to mention the Z is without a doubt the sexiest thing on 4 wheels i've ever layed my eyes on. I like the G but it never played any part in my personal equation.
I'm the type of person who knows exactly what I want before I even leave my living room. Matter of fact, the decision to buy the Z was so easy I didn't leave my living room, did the whole deal over the phone and had it located and delivered to the dealership. Never saw it until the day I signed the papers. Pure Zweetness!!!!!!

I've grown up with Zs (my parents had a '78 280Z and my first car was an '80 280ZX) so it was more of an emotional decision. I was even a llittle pissed at first that Nissan diluted the history and "special-ness" of the Z by making the G. Not knocking the Gs, though, just not for me.

I chose the G over the Z because I liked the styling better on the G (obviously I love the Z as well), and the interior was just much better imho (not to say either is really that good).

I would ask the opposite question. I can't figure out why anyone would pick the G over the Z unless they needed the extra seats. I think the styling on the Z is much sexier and sportier than the G. The G is a "sporty" car, but the Z is a true Sports Car.
But to each his own, but I certainly wouldn't take any attitude from a G driver.

owning the G35 never crossed my mind...ill be honest, i dont have any emotional ties, or history with the 'Z' heritage. But i just found it to be the ultimate in the INexpensive Pure Sport car lineup. It has plenty of HP for me, EXTREMELY sexy, and omg, that exhaust note...after hearing that thing, i HAD my sights on it for 3 years, and finally bought one, now that i can easily afford it. Z all the way!

Attitude....
the Z had more sex appeal and attitude.
Plus psuedo-"sports luxury" coupes kind of have a short appeal span. They're hot forthree or so years and a redesigned version, or something else usually steals whatever "status" the car has.
Ask the Supra guys back in 96' why they went with a Supra instead of a Lexus SC300. The latter doesn't have as much of a classic appeal.

I test drove a G a while back when I was just looking around at other options, but it felt like I was driving my dad's car or something (not that my dad drives a G, but like I was driving something that was too fancy). The G was fast and all, but you couldn't really tell because they made the interior so quiet you can only hear the engine when you are gunning it. Money was also an issue.
