Default Buying new car unseen?

I posted earlier that I am in the hunt for a '06 350Z GT. Chances are if I find one I will not get to see it before making the deal with the dealer.

Well I was wondering what people thought of when purchasing a car without seeing it first. Is this considered a bad thing. What happens if when the car is delivered I find a scratch or worse the car has serious manufacturer defect. Do most dealers let you just refuse purchase at that point if you chose or do you have to deal now with repair procedures from day one?

i bought my 05 Z without ever looking at it, i never even test drove one or even sat in one for that matter. I was probably stupid for not at least sitting in one but hell it was love at first sight.

My dad bought 2 cars sight unseen and on both deals he has been screwed over in some way, generally the car has problems the seller "forgot" to tell him about.

No problem.

Pay the dealer after he finds the car, not before. He will have the car delivered to the dealership for you prepped and ready to hand over the keys.

I wouldn't buy used sight unseen...

...but I did buy my '06 GTc sight unseen. 2 1/2 month wait. Never really even seen one close up, or drove (driver or passenger) one till I test drove mine at the dealership right before I filled out the paperwork and bought it. It's pretty much everything I expected it to be. Very happy with it.

I noticed a small scratch on the bottom of the inside door panel when I had it at home the next day. Dealer had touch up guy fix it for free -- I can't tell there was anything wrong now.

So... worked for me. yah.

Bought mine unseen (well put down a deposit over the phone then drove down a week later and paid the rest)

It was used as well so I made sure tonnes of pictures were taken and sent to me!

+1 for not buying used unseen unless lots of pictures and research was done before buying. one of my good friends runs the dealership down here so there was a good trust factor, but used, buyer beware. Microd nice ride, the 06 wheels look great over the older models i think.

Thanks guys.

Well the dealer located an 06 GT silverstone/charcoal I went to the dealer and all he needed was a credit card hold to get the car shipped to him. No charge just hold if I do not show for the apt. to test the car, I can refuse purchase for any reason. The car will be ready tom. for me to test. Hope all goes well and I will be a new Z owner.

P.S. The dealer showed me his lot papers on this Z. It was delivered to them on Aug. 30th, so it has not been sitting long.

microd - thanks for the pics, that should be exactly what my Z will look like.
