Question 07 Base Cp 6MT Tranny Question / Help

Hi All,

Just got my 07 Cpe (Base, Silver, 6MT). Love it so far but I have a question about the transmission. Car has about 650mi on it after 2 months and I have noticed that there is a spinning noise in the transmission (neutral and clutch out).

Also, the car does not always go into gear as you have to wrestle a little with it. Best described as 'notchy'. I had the dealer check it out and they said this is normal. For a 30k car I would expect it to have a smoother shift mechanism (My 77 280Z had a more solid feel than mine).

Is this normal break-in period kind of stuff or should I be concerned about something more sinister lurking around? Has anyone else experienced this?

Feedback appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Do you still have the 280? Haven't driven an 07 yet, so don't know what's normal for an 07. Each year has it's own quirks.

1st gear to 2nd gear is notchy for me..but the other gears are fine for me. Just push the clutch all the way in and shift slowly but surely...thats the best I can suggest.

The transmissions do make noise, that's normal. However, my shifter doesn't feel notchy at all, even when "cold" (it's AZ, so it really doesn't get that cold).

As soon as it's time for the first oil change, I'm also going to switch the tranny and diff fluid out too. Going to try MT90 first as I've had great results with it in other Nissan transmissions.

my 1-2 felt a little notchy at first, but it's smoothed up quite a bit after 8800 miles of driving.

The driveline noise is normal.

i noticed a little noise in neutral with the clutch out, but nothing abnormal. mine shifts fine, no "notchyness". then again, i've got about 130 miles on it, time will tell i guess.

Congrats and welcome to the forum. I think your problem with the transmission is that you don't drive your car enough.

You want notchy, drive a srt-4 with a short throw shifter. Going from that to the Z is a night and day difference.

yeah , I went from a 2nd gen Eclipse to a Z and it definetly felt a lot tougher to move the shifter , like it was heavier to move around but thats just the way its supposed to be, after a while you just get used to it.
