Talking New Owner from Glendale CA

Hello Hello

After much anticipation and a bit of waiting I got my 350z. I originally wanted 300zx, but w/e. It's HOT. 2004 black exterior and interior. Manual touring coupe. I love it, but the manual is tricky (noob).

My dad has been helping me out so far. (I'm 17...don't hate me.) He made me do the up and down thing on a bit of an incline, which i mastered is a few minutes. But driving in the city with people around you is a bit different. I stall at least once ever 10 minutes (out of a total 1 hour driven so far) and am able to start smoothly about half the time. The other half the whole car jerks forwards and backwards, or I just stall. Made and *** of myself once on a busy intersection. Took too long to start and when i got the damn thing started it jerked back and forth violently a few times before leveling out. I even got pulled over once, but that was for not having a license plate (it's in the mail) w/e I'm improving.

Pictures posted below. I want to keep the engine stock as of now. If I ever have money to waste I'll probably get a new exhaust, but that's more for the sound than the performance. My buddy said that if I know a good welder he could make me an exhaust for a fraction of the cost. Luckily I work at a machine shop with welder buddies all around me, so this wont be a problem if I choose to take this route. Please give me your opinion...or post blueprint

I am, for sure, going to get the back light smoked as well as all the reflectors all around. They are a distraction. I'll leave the front lights alone. I also want to take out the rear wiper, but I may wait until after winter for that.

Nothing much other than that. Any and all m/t tips would be appreciated as well as you opinion on the custom exhaust idea.

here are the pics:

Love the site BTW..I'll be here a lot in the future

****EDIT: it has 40,000 miles and we got it for 21,000 + fees = 23,016. Fairly good price I was told. It had rained a few hours before the pictures.

With 23k you could have got a nicely modded NA or maybe even a FI'd car...

Nice complete post for a new owner, and a 17 yr. old that writes in regular English is.....getting rare.

Don't worry about getting the Manual shifting down, it comes naturally. You are probably killing it often because you are nervous and that takes away from the unconscious flow of it.
It's also good as you are less likely to test your and the cars testosterone which could make you an ex-Z owner. It's sad that so many of these cars get smashed up within a few months after purchase. Enjoy it and show your appreciation by being careful out there.

Welcome to the forum and a big congrats on the car!

Congratz! If u are nervous backing up on an incline, use the E-brake trick!

The only time I hit the car was backing up on an incline. The plastic under the bumber hit the curb, no big deal. I used the E brake but when i let go I was goint too fast and broke too late. I hit more because I didn't see the curb. I'm used to driving my mom's FX45 (camera in the back). Plus the E brake is weak. you have to really jerk it.

Nice Zed!

Manual Transmission is tricky at first, but the more you practice the better you are. Then it's easy peasy and you can brag to all those people who can't.

But I myself am young and will warn you now, park somewhere in school where your car is safe! (mine got egged) Those fools... *shakes fist*

lol. Me and my buddies have this thing goin on at the school lot. The lot is fairly big, about 2 spaces per student thusfar, but will get crowded towards the end of the year. As of right now at the far corner (the one farthest from the door where few people park) you will find my 350Z, my friend's '01 Z06, my other friends 08 Audi TT (or 07...the new body) parked next to each other, but with plenty of space imbetween. I'll take a picture when I take my camera to school...they are 3 VERY sexy cars, even if the vette is a class higher than the other 2.

oh and it's been about 2 weeks with the manual. I pretty much got it down.
