Default '03 Track - purchase advice

Hi guys,

I'm looking at an '03 Track with just over 80k orig miles. Basically stock. I'm a longtime autocrosser but am looking for a daily driver car. I may autocross this car once in awhile but that's not my major reason for searching. I just want a reliable daily driver that's fun in the canyons on the weekends.

I know it's going to be stiff. I drive an old 944 daily now. I'm not worried about that.

What I want to know is (a) what to look for in this car that might fail and/or get expensive to fix; (b) what's a fair price for this particular silver car. It's had a bit of paintwork on the front nose. No major damage and in good shape overall.

Thanks!

David

I myself am an 03 track owner. I love the car and would recommend it to anyone. I also auto-x weekends probably 7-8 times a year and the Z is my daily driver.

Things to watch out for:
-weak synchros in CD006 and CD007 transmissions. Pull the vin and get service records if available. Having a new CD009 transmission is a major plus, because id be suprised if the original made it this far. Many if not most were replaced by dealers around 40-50k. Mine made it to 38k. You can always just look for the stamping on the trans too if you want to put it in the air.
- window motors. They fail and the part is like $300
- Tire feathering (although this isn't major and i never understood why it was such a big deal).....as it can be fixed with an alignment.

As for the car's value itself... let your conscience be your guide.
For reference.....last july i paid $19,900 for my 03 track with 32k miles on it.
16k seems fair given the mileage

Is it fair to say that if the gearbox hasn't been replaced then I should walk away?

Thanks,

Dave

It probably depends on the car. There are a number of 03 owners around here who are still on their original gearbox.

How about a 2003 Track with 13,680 mi, with maintenance records and garage kept? Including a CF Hood and CF NISMO Spoiler, NISMO CAI, NISMO Headers, NISMO Catback Exhaust. $_____ ?? What do you think?
