Hey! Lurking 2008 Z Touring Newbie decloaks
I bought a 2008 Touring Coupe from the dealer. It has everything I was looking for, burnt orange seats, Silver Alloy paint, 6sp manual, and the VQ35HR.
I drive the Z as my weekend car, with most DD going to my Toyota Tacoma 4x4.
The very first thing I did was claybar the paint. No one I knew had ever heard of it but they know about it now.
I took it to Kingpin Audio in Wilsonville for their ultimate sound deadening package. I've lost a chunk of my hearing due to autos I've owned in the past which sucks. I am extremely happy with the work - you'd never know it from the inside or out; when my buddies take a ride in it they're astonished at how quiet it is.
I just installed a Zee Bracket to mount the front license plate. This is waaaay better than stock. I just couldn't bring myself to drill the nose of my Z and am so happy to have found it on this Forum.
I also installed the S2000 antenna - wifey didn't think it looked any different, but my son totally understands why. While it is slightly oversized as others have noted, it looks ok to me. I may go with the other one since it's only $22 bucks.
I took it to Tommy's Window Tinting in SE PDX to have a clear bra installed. I'm very happy with their craftsmanship.
I used to build racing engines and am picky about break-in practices. I drained all of the stock oil at 500 miles; engine, transmission, differential. I used the mineral based Castro 5-30W for the first 1500 miles. I switched to the 0W-30 Castrol Euro Formula and have a two year supply laid away now.
I changed the oil at 500 miles, and again at 1500 miles. I am using the Amsoil Synthetic oil filter and Amsoil for the transmission and differential. I followed the owners manual to keep rpms below 4000 for the first 1200 miles. I ended up going 1400 miles before I went over 4000 RPM. I also never let the engine run at constant rpm during the initial 1400 miles.
Finally, as reported on this forum, I would like to confirm the post that said the Z is the top chick magnet ride. Absolutely true. Who needs to be a musician when you can simply buy a Z?
I want to thank everyone for their tips and ideas on the forum. They have been extremely valuable in pointing me in the right direction.
(I am going to sell this car soon - it has 28,000 miles on it now. And ideas on what I should ask for it? I moved to Idaho and it goes into storage until the snow stops flying).
