Default NEW! Vetern Z Owners Please Come In, ?'s To Answer

My name's Brad, i'm 20 years old and go to college for Business Administration. I'm new to the forum's and new to the world of Nissan's and 350Z's. Right now i dont own one, but am preparing to do some research over the winter and hopefully will be purchasing one come spring time. I am not an idiot when it comes to cars, so i am well capable of working/building them, afterall i daily drive a 3000GT VR4 with some tasty mod's and also sport an SL. So here are my questions, please answer them or direct me to a proper/reliable source..thanks guys/girls!

1 - What is the differences between the "enthusiast (sp?)" and the "touring"? which is the highest level of 350Z?

2 - What years are the most "sought after"? Meaning what years produce the most horsepower/torque, least problems, etc?

3 - What are some of the common problems associated with the years? What are the costs involved in fixing some of them? Just briefly i've read about problems with synchro's, MAF sensor, "clicking" noise in the rear end.

4 - What would you recommend for me? Basically i'm looking to daily drive my Z, I dont really want to mod the thing outside of just bolt on's, I want somet reliable, yet fun to drive at the same time. I have my heart set on a 6spd car, and the Bose system so something with them would be sweeet.

Thank you for reading my post despite it being a bit long, i appreciate all the help and cant wait to get into a Z! Pics of the VR4 available upon request Thanks people!

HR is faster, has the least problems, can be daily driven, and comes with a bose system. So, it's the best.

The Enthusiast is for people who are enthusiastic. If you like touring than the Touring is for you.

The 350z is a sports car, most people who get this car generally have the yearning to go faster and harder in their vehicles. With that said, if you're looking for the best sportiest version of the 350z, it will be the 2007 NISMO version. If you don't want to put down the money for that, go for a 2006 Track version, or HR (2007) Touring.

If I had the chance to go back, I'd get one of those two.

The enthusiast is a lower model, it has cloth seats and not as many options. Check the top 100 Commonly asked questions thread it will answer your trim package questions. The better years are the HR with stands for high revving, they are the 2007 and up models. Again check that other thread. Basically ask yourself what you want, if you want leather seats that really narrows your selection down. The Bose system is nothing too special at all, I have it in my 350 and it is not very impressive. Try and get one as new as possible, that would be your best bet.

They also changed the rev limit on the 2006 models to a higher rev...correct me if I am wrong.

I'm trading my Z in for an RSX.

You should look into them.

To some Bose is overrated..............plenty of aftermarket head units that are much better, IMO, Bose shouldn't be a requirement.......

You drive a 3000GT so you CLEARLY have already reached the pinnacle of automotive engineering. The problem is that you have a complete lack of understanding as to what a search feature is.

Your first 3 questions can be found all over the forum. We're not really into condensing all that information for you unless you're paying. If you're doing research, perhaps you should seek the information out rather than expect us to compile it all for you.

As to your final question, since the only car on earth faster than the godly VR4 is the RSX, I would recommend you skip the dredges of the automotive world and jump right into one of those.

Hope that helps you.

I appreciate everyone's answers, i was not aware of the Top 100 Questions asked, this whole forum is completely different then others i am on (set up wise). So i will take the time to look around and get familiar with things, thanks for the understanding. On the other hand the sarcasm makes me think i'm talking to a bunch of highschoolers, i was told this was a more sophisticated forum when it came to the 350Z platform but perhaps i was mislead. The VR4 is in no way the "pinnacle" form of fine engineering as there were plenty of errrors in designing it, that being said on a tight college budget and running a 12.3X this last summer, i in no way presume that as being "fast" but am proud of my achievment. I drive sprint cars and am no longer looking at building a "fast" car, but more or less looking for a fine looking sports car that still has some get-up-and-go, plus what girl doesn't like a 350Z

Thanks to those who have pointed me in the correct direction, i will continue to troll the site and if i run into any questions i'll use the search button first Thanks guys/girls

Sarcasm is not related to age, but a sense of humor, take it as negative humor if you will...you will find that this forum is sophisticated, and many people on here are very knowledgable about our cars; however, it's not going to stop us from being a smart *** either.

Welcome to the Z community

understandable. thanks for the welcome, i had no idea the market for 350Z's are as affordable as they are! I'm super excited to pick one up and start driving one. I'm just trying to find the right one for me, and not settle on one i'll regret owning in the future.

True but only on the 6mt trannys. The 35th Anniversary (6mt) came with the rev up motor that set the rev limiter to 7k's as well.

You have a good attitude and will be successful 350Z shopping. The 350Z is an excellent performance vs price value.

The sarcasm is all in fun, but searching is strongly encouraged. I can't resist a good K20 comment sometimes. This forums library of information is awesome. There aren't many question you can think of that the search function will not give you a good answer to. GL on finding the right Z for you.

OP, look into 2004-2005 Cadillac CTSVs for an astonishing HP/Price ratio. id also look at an RSX Type S; a great little bargain bundle.
