Default Just got my Z. Already have questions

Hey guys. I finally got my 350z. Its a 2006. Silver, although I don't like the color so ill have it painted in the near future. I was driving a Celica 2001 GTS, traded it in for the Z.

So here is my question.

When driving at high RPM's with my Celica when i shifted i'd have to shift as fast as i could to properly shift into the next gear without letting the RPM's fall to low.

Now on the Z its completely different. When i shift i have to wait for the RPM's to drop because as soon as i clutch in it holds the RPM's for about a second then drops. I can still rev match this with no problem and have a very clean shift but it seems like wasted time in between shifts.

So finally to the questions. When you guys shift do you wait for the RPM's to drop so you can properly rev match for a very clean shift or do you shift as fast as you can? Shifting as fast as you can seems like it would burn out your clutch very quickly.

Thanks guys!

sounds like your celica had a light flywheel causing faster rpm drop, the Z has a dualmass flywheel which is quite heavy (dont remember how much it weighs) and in turn doesnt drop rpms as fast, its not an issue and will not burn your clutch up ive had mine for 60k with a lot of abuse and there was still plenty life left on the clutch disk. if u want the feel of your celica then i would recommend a lightweight flywheel which i currently have in my car and i love it

Ahh i see. Thanks for the info. I don't mind it at all, i just didn't want to do anything wrong. Just the thought of shifting fast while the RPM's were so high and then clutching off pulling the RPMs down to your actual speed seemed like it would eat up the clutch. Guess i thought wrong. :]

You drive a 350Z now not a Toyota. A few hundred miles and you will be shifting like a pro.

BTW what is this “rev match” stuff all about?

It's not that i wanted it, just not used to the new feel. Over all i wanted to know if fast shifting will cause great wear to the Z's clutch since i takes a bit longer for it to drop, but as someone said i guess it doesn't.

Cool. Be sure to check out the Texas regional sub-forum and the DFW lounge (if you ever need help with installs or have any questions - we have a great group of peeps in the area that are always willing to help).
