From a 97 Maxima to an 03 Z
Hey guys I'm new to the forum. I just recently got an 03 350z from a good buddy of mine, the car's beautiful and in the time I've had it thus far I really love it. It's definitely a step up in performance from the maxima I used to own(which I will always miss, it was a good car to me). But one of the things I'm having problems dealing with is the attention it gets, now I've always been kind of low pro and never really liked drawing attention to myself at all, but the amount of looks from people and street race challenges I get makes me kind of uncomfortable. Not only that but I'm also kind of paranoid of leaving the car unattended for too long in some places which wasn't much of a problem with the maxima. I'm worried since I'm starting school again soon and I have some late classes that I had to sign up for that make me leave the car in a dark lot during the nights. I love the car don't get me wrong and I don't act as if it's a half mil dollar sports car but it has brought on this onset of dealing with dudes trying to race me at lights often and I find myself worrying a lot about being away from it for too long. I know this is kind of a long winded post and it might've been discussed already before (sorry if that's the case) but I just want to know if you guys feel that way too sometimes and how deal with it, I kind of feel like going back to a sedan like I had before. Thanks guys.
Another Maxima to Z newbie here. You do not have to race anyone, they would not rev their engine if you were in a Yaris. Get a better than factory alarm if you are worried about it being broken into, and be smart about what you leave inside the car. Get used to some stares, stare back if you want.
Lemme tell you whats happening here.
You went from a dull car to one that will always attract attention.
You think this is cool.Don't want to admit same.
The guys wanting to "race" you will "disappear" after a few months.
They are mostly in your imagination.
You are paranoid of where to park your Z,what will happen to it.
The bad guys will break into it...etc.
This is normal to be over protective for a new car.
You will calm down after awhile.
If all this stuff I mentioned does not go away, you
should have kept the Maxima. You are not Z material.
Have you bought a T-shirt,hat..one with a Z?When you
park your car, walk into a store people will KNOW you are the
guy with the sharp car.Chicks will fall all over you!
Saying that...welcome!
Get some cheap sunglasses.Look the part.

^ x2 what Jcity said.
Also, 2 things to do in the meanwhile if you haven't yet:
1) Make sure you have Comprehensive on your auto insurance, preferably with 0 deductible. Quite cheap for what it is and absolutely mandatory for any attention grabbing car imho.
2) Invest in a good aftermarket 2-way pager style alarm, and possibly a good set of running shoes if your classes are very far from the parking garage.
Beyond this, being humble when behind the wheel of your new toy and being smart about where you do leave it is all you can do. Don't let the worry ruin the upgrade... I'm sure you chose the car because you wanted to enjoy it, so do!

Thanks guys, I'm glad to see other people know what I'm talking about and I'm not just being paranoid. I'll take what you guys said into consideration, I guess it's just part of the experience you get with a nicer car. I'll look into the comprehensive addition to my insurance policy and the alarm system too. Thanks very much guys! hopefully things will cool down with the car from now.
