Question Trying to join the Z fam...how much would you pay?

I've been searching all over for a decent manual coupe 350z (tough!) I have found this one and was thinking about getting it. It's a base model listed at $15k an '05 and only has about 33k on the odometer (too good to be true?) How much would you pay?

Just remember it's a 7 year old car, but the low mileage is a plus. Have you driven it? How's the carfax / history of the car?

If they're asking 15k they will probably except less try 13,500 or something.

scheduled a test drive for this Saturday and there's nothing on the autocheck history report that's alarming.

the low mileage and relative low price is what draws me to the car. the age of the car was initially a concern, but if it runs and sounds good on Saturday, its mine!

Since you asked so nicely. I Personally wouldn't pay a dime over $7500.

It all depends on location. Seeing as you're in Kansas, from my experience it was a little bit harder to find a Z in good condition, with a manual transmission, and for an affordable price. I looked for a long time- I ended up paying 14k for a 2006 Touring with a stillen exhaust and an injen CAI. It had 60k on the odo if that helps. I bought it two weeks ago.

I know how hard it is to find a Z in good condition for under 15k in this area. I looked for a few months and thought I got a great deal on my car compared to what some dealers wanted (it's hard as hell to find a private party selling Z's in Nebraska). That said....this is a base model Z that's completely stock. Firstly, after knowing a lot of Z drivers and driving my fair share of them before buying one....I wouldn't recommend getting a base model. It has no cruise control- and I promise that you'll have the car for a month and then want to change the rims, possibly put in better headlights, upgrade those pedals (I had no idea base Z's dont have metal plates on the pedals), and numerous other things. You'll end up wanting to spend more than 2 or 3 thousand dollars alone just to get the car to the level of a stock Touring model.

Sorry about the length, and I know some people would disagree. If you dont mind the base model, are positive you wont be wanting to mod the car (I promise you'll hate those rims eventually), and know that not having a cruise control wouldnt be a big deal- I'd probably pay about 12k for the car (only because the miles are so low). If you keep looking around your area for deals or are willing to drive down to Texas or even somewhere like St louis, then I promise you can find a decent Z, that isnt a base model or that has some upgrades, for anywhere between 13-15k.

Good luck, and I promise you wont regret buying a Z regardless!

Edit- After looking at the car again....I think I'd do like 11.5k for it max. This car might go for 10k somewhere like LA or in Arizona, bc there are quite a few Z's. I know good Z's are hard to come by locally here in NE/KS, but I can't emphasize my point that base model Z's are really really really basic. I'd keep looking if I were you! Best of luck!

yo, thanks for all the posts, regardless of size and content. I didn't even realize that the steering wheel was missing cruise control functions and radio functions. I was ok with not having metal pedals, figured i'd update them later on with some other minor cosmetics. This will be my first manual and I don't plan on keeping it for more than a couple years. And you're right about the wheels, they were almost a deal breaker, but the mileage on this thing is almost unbelievable.

I was checking out another 05 touring with aftermarket navi in Omaha,NE with around 66k for $18.6, but it was sold today I found out it was sold yesterday or today. I really don't want to have travel, but for now the only other one i've found that fits my search criteria is this http://goo.gl/KwxYe

I agree with supply&demand. In your area its slim pickins for Z's.
It is a base.Would be better to get a touring.Yeah, cruise control is no big deal to some.
LSD is important to me.HID lights are another plus on the touring.
At any rate, sounds like a good deal.
Welcome!
Post some pics when you get it!

I also live in KS and looked for 3 months before I bought my 350z. Seems a bit high but the mileage is awesome. I bought an 06 enthusiast with 48k miles for a just a hair over $14k a year ago and all it needed was one new o2 sensor and a little body work that i never got to because you can't even tell.

looks like I may have to search all over the midwest for my first Z. I offered 12k, expecting to settle around 13.5k, but the dealer countered with what basically was a FU of $14745. It's listed for 14995 and I think they're pretty firm on that :/ oh well on to the next one.

Screw them. I had to drive 5 hrs for mine. Was 05 touring with 25,700 miles. Had a key job, (took $700 to fix), and missing the ash tray and a cubby. But I got it for 14k. I was happy. Though I didn't realize it had 2 owners in between 21,000 and 25,000. Besides that, it was perfect condition with no needed repairs. So $750 later, it was like a new touring. I love it and was worth it. For the money they want, it had better been at least an enthusiast our a 30K+ mileage touring. You'll find the right one soon enough. GL!

Check Lincoln cl. There were one or two dealership cars that might be reasonable. If you ever need me to look at a car or make your way up here, I'd be happy to go look with you. Have a buddy in the Z club here that looked at every Z with me. Best of luck!

yea man actually just bought one couple months ago (pics coming soon) i had a choice between a base and a touring. decided to go with the base it was about 3 grand less both were 08's 40XXX miles on the base and 45xxx on the touring. i test drove the base first loved it checked out the touring loved it also but i did notice after i drove the touring that those extra features are missing on the base. i can say i dont miss the cruise control or the buttons on the steering wheel for the radio. my old maxima had those and i never used any of it so i figured why pay extra for things i dont use. and to give u an idea i paid about 17,000 for my z
