New Z Owner!
How's it going guys? I just got an 06 350z base 6mt a couple of days ago and wanted to introduce myself. The car is my daily driver, and will be in the awful indiana winters. And will have to deal with bumper to bumper traffic everyday on my way to campus, probably not the best choice of daily for my situation but whatever.
The car is for the most part, in fantastic shape. But it does have two problems that I would like to get some opinions about.
First off, YES I HAVE USED THE SEARCH BUTTON. But anyways, my car has the infamous "sticky clutch" and I'm getting completely mixed reviews as to what causes the problem. When I first start the car up, it's hardly even noticeable. But with more frequent clutch use, it starts to stick more and more. There are no spots on the driveway where I park and there are no spots on the carpet, which makes me feel like it's not the slave or master cylinder. So hopefully just an air pocket in the clutch line? Any opinions would be much appreciated.
Also, after some spirited driving last night, I couldn't help but notice some throw out bearing noise (or at least I believe). Was noticeable when I sat in neutral, couldn't hear it when I pressed in the clutch pedal, came back when I was off the clutch pedal. And after a lot of frantic research, it seems like that's completely normal with these noisy a** transmissions. But I would love some clarification, because I'm worried if that's the case, that I'll never know when the TOB is actually going bad. And would getting a heavier grade transmission oil help fix this? The noises themselves don't really bother me, the car has a single mass flywheel too so I'm already used to the noise. But I just want to make sure I wont run into any issues.

Why would the noise be the TOB if it goes away when the clutch pedal is depressed? That's when the TOB is actually doing something. The noise goes away because you're hearing the normal sound of the gearbox's internal parts when the pedal is released and those internal parts are spinning. Push in the pedal and the gearbox internals stop rotating, at least while the car is standing still. Any car with a manual gearbox will do the same, although some have more sound insulation in place.
Anyway, enjoy the new Z. Look pretty clean and stock, which is always the best choice when buying used.

Are you planning on keeping her in stock form, or any mod bugs in your area?
The "trans/clutch" noise is normal from what I know. I had the same fear when I first got mine. Neutral Noise is common as long as it goes away when you push in the clutch.
As for sticky pedal, you may need to bleed air or replace the fluid. Mine was sticky too at first but that was mostly due to operator error

I would have liked some more options when I bought my 08 base, but anything I NEED can be added. Already put a VLSD in there on the cheap so no more one tire fryer for me. I don't daily her anymore so there's not much need for cruise, and all the electronic aids are shut off right away by most upper trim owners.

I would have liked cruise control and an LSD, but it suits my needs for the time being.
I'm planning on lightly modding it, probably won't ever make more than 300 to the wheels. I've had modded cars in the past and honestly this car doesn't seem like it needs much to be perfect. But the mod bug does get addicting lol.
And the noise does go away when I push the clutch in, and it's consistent. So it seems like it's normal for this car, which makes very relieved.

Brake fluid and transmission fluid are getting done this weekend. If the problem persists I'll save up for a slave cylinder. Really hope I won't have to but I pretty much figured it was something I'd have to do soon since nissan seemed to drop the ball on the slave and master cylinders.

There is no place on earth like Atlanta to drive in traffic with a ****ing stick shift on a custom clutch, and everyone picks Friday to wreck their cars to make it even worse. EVERY ****ING FRIDAY it takes me 1 hour to get home on a 22 mile drive. You got nothing to complain about. You will learn to hate that car, just as much as I hate mine.

Damn dude hahaha. This is my third stick shift car. I'm used to it. But I definitely wasn't saying that indianapolis traffic is the worst in the world, but it takes me about 45 minutes to an hour to get 15 miles just because all the stoplights. I've been to Atlanta a couple times. I know that place is hell when it comes to traffic lol. Definitely a lot worse than downtown Indy.

Yeah I figured. 300whp isn't really my goal. But if I decide I want to focus on power it's what I'd shoot for. Honestly I'll probably just do I/h/e. The car pulls hard enough to where I don't feel like it "needs" anything. Proper maintenance is what I'm focusing on at the moment so I don't have any problems getting from home to school everyday for the next three years haha.
