New Z in Texas!
I haven't even sat in a car in around ten years, but I've always wanted a Z. I was driving home from work, and saw an '04 Touring for $10,500. I went in and paid $8,300 cash. Seems to be a nice car. It has factory GPS, aftermarket Pioneer double DIN, two 12" Kicker subs, and an amp. Everything works inside, except the interior lights in the roof.
It had a terrible miss, and SES light. P0300. New spark plugs fixed it. I also changed the oil, and got rid of that retarded K&N air filter. And I put a new oil pressure sending unit in, because the gauge was pegged. While I had the coil packs out, I metered them, and they read good. Pretty happy. The engine bay is very clean. And I don't mean "cleaned". I mean, it is freakin' clean!
My only complaint is the quarter mile times. Are these cars really that slow?? I have two pickups that will beat this car by two seconds, and one of them weighs almost 9,000lbs! For being able to light the tires so easy, I figured this thing would run mid-12's.
Anyways, I've been lurking here for a couple days now. Figured it was time to say hi.

Sounds like you are off to a nice start. Welcome and Congratz!
As far as "slow" goes, there are certainly 8 cyl cars/trucks that will leave a Z behind no doubt. Things have changed a lot in 12 years, but as of production date, the Z was designed to be an affordable and competitive alternative to cars costing 2X.
Handling, acceleration and braking are spot-on for a car at this price point. Enjoy your Z, and post up pics for everyone to enjoy!

Welcome and congrats!
Regarding your comment about the quarter mile times....
"350Z", not "Mustang GT".
But in all seriousness (or as serious as this gets.... not much), drag racing, while many in their Z's do so, is not it's forte. The Z is more at home on curvy mountain roads and road circuits (plus AX and yes, Rallycross).
Was driving down the street in my Niz the other day and thought to myself, "I hate this car in traffic." But then, hit my usual road up the mountain and followed on with "Now that's what I'm tawkin' about!"
