im the proud owner of a 1977 Datsun 280z coupe, ive had the car for a few years now and i havent done to much to it other then get it running and buying almost all of Skillard.com 280z section.
now you may be wondering why a datsunb guy is on a 350z forum, well that because i plan on taking the motor, trans, differential, and what ever else i can from a 2003 350z i bought earlier this year and transplanting it into my 280z.
she was 15 inches under water a week earlier thanks to Harvey.....
Thanks!

I had a 260Z and wanted to get a 2.8L turbo in it. Unfortunately, my ideas were way more ambitious than reality.
I wish you luck and hope to see the finished product.
I'm right there with you! I wanted to do a l28et build to but the amount of money for the power just wasn't there..... then I got this entire car for 1k and it can make slot more power if I boost it.
This ought to be good..... haven't seen many (if any) S30-married-to-VQ threads here on my350Z. (There are lots over on the "swapped Zs" site.)
I am a veteran of a couple of snailed L-series Zs (waaaaaay back); one running an early Rajay blow through set-up and an injected L28E with a BAE system; and while they make a fair bit of power for what the car is, if you want more, the contemporary V6 swap makes a lot more sense due to the aftermarket support for the VQ.
Back in the day, there wasn''t enough in the way of proper engine management (those were the plug-in and piggy-back ROM days) to support more than about 300hp SAFELY.
On that note, wondering if you're going to run it NA first? You might be happy with it as it is. Gross power of your car as is is but a "mere" 170hp, not even at the wheels. Stock VQ drivetrain is already more efficient so less power loss through the drivetrain. 287 stock is already ~100 ponies more.
I sense a lot of potential greatness in this thread. Subscribed and welcome to the boards OP.
Thanks! it should be a "fun" build lol.

In any event, good luck!
i was debating about trying to do a l28et build but those damn things are crazy hard to find!! and when you find one they want a arm and a leg for them...
but yeah im gonna keep it N/A, 300hp on this thing should be just fine, but a boost build would be sick! its just not in the funds right now.
quick question guys, the doner 350z is a 04 but its had a transplant itself (hint the Ex. cam sensor), i guess my question is what year did this motor come from? They weren't hooked up obviously.
i'm not very familiar with the VQ platform yet, and i.m learning more and more as i explore this site.
Before I forget, if you like doing your own oil changes (because I can't tell from your stories - lol), you should look into getting a Fumoto drain valve for your oil pan. Makes oil changes so much better.
