Default 05 350z diff help

I plan on saving up for a quaife in the next couple months but i want to have a bit more affordable fun in my Z. Being an 05 base i have an open diff, the car is a 6 speed so my real question here is can i use a vlsd from a 350z(Track or touring models) from any of the surrounding years like 03-06 and have no issues as long as it’s from a 6speed? base models don’t have electronics like TCS so i’m wondering will the diffs match up or at i limited to buying an aftermarket diff meant for the base model. I’m looking to weld my open and put in the vlsd while i wait for the quaife come any problems with the weld. Cheers, hope to hearing back from some Z friends who have tried this.

The two diffs have different stub axles.

Honestly even if you could, i wouldn't. The vlsd kinda sucks anyway. Better than open diff but still pretty crap.

how hard/expensive is a conversion if possible? Would welding my open still allow me to drop in a 2 way later or would i need to source a new open diff?

How hard/expensive such a conversion is directly related to how much mechanical skill you have. Welding the spider gears on an open diff can't be undone. You'll need to start over...
