Default Newbie saying hello

Hey,

I just wanted to say hello. My name is Mike and while I don't currently own a 350Z, I do like the cars. I'm actually trying to figure out which car to replace my daily driver and I really dig the 350Z. I think it and the GTO are top of the list. The STi and a used Vette are following behind. What are your impressions of the 350Z? Especially for those of you that have driven some of these other cars.

Thanks for your input.

Mike

This type of question pops up about twice a week. You might try a search & come back with specific questions. I don't know enough about the other cars you mention to comment.

The GTO is sloooooow.

Z's and STi's are nice, can't really see a Vette being a nice daily driver since it eats gas like crazy and is way above the price ranges of even the most loaded OEM Z's and STi's. I'd probably go with the Z, but I'm biased.

I test drove the GTO (auto) and it was fast... at least faster then our Z (stock vs stock). I don't really like the STi to me it looks kind of cheap compared to the other cars in your list... I would pick a Z or the vette (2000-2004).

Yeah my bet is the GTO and Vette will be faster. But one side of me is thinking I already have a quick LS1, why do I need another? Also it might be nice to to have a new challenge. I dig the sound and look of the Z. I saw one take off from a light on my way to work once, and it was pretty darn fast.

If I get the Z, which is top on my list right now, it will be my first import. Right now I'm just trying to learn the difference between the different models. I think I'm leanign towards the Touring Package. But I really like the 18" track rims. Those things look really slick.

Thanks for the help so far guys.

It kind of hard to say because all the cars you picked are pretty different from each other. I mean he Vette and GTO are very powerful cars compare to the Z. The STI will have nice handling like the Z. It all depends on what you are looking for in a car. As for a daily drive guess all of them could be used for that. Coming from someone who has a 350Z I going to say get the Z.

I looked at a GTO when I was trying to sell my Z, the interior sucks IMO, I was looking really hard at the STI but hated the blue interior, if you can get past that it's a good car. I wound up buying a used G35c.

If u like the feeling of driving a Grand AM even tho its fast then get the GTO. U should test drive the Z first and see how it feels + u shouldnt decide which trim to buy base on what wheels it comes with as most of us have changed to aftermarket wheels. Check out the gallery section for pics.

hahaha, no worries. Newbies are the source of much entertainment.

The Z is the front runner right now. I dig the looks, the price isn't too bad, and they have this destinctive supercar sound. I'm wondering if the few in my area have aftermarket exhausts or if they come stock that way?

The gallery is a good idea. I want to check out what you guys have been up to with these cars. Does anyone have the concept drawings of the 350? When I mod exterior, I tend to try and make it look like the designers intended it.

I was too busy trying to get the Hawk running this weekend to go for a test drive. Hopefully this coming weekend will be sunny and I can take one for a spin.

I think Pontiac screwed up on the GTO... for something with so much power underneath the hood, you'd think they'd make it look a little meaner. The Z is just plain sexy. It might not be the quickest car on your list, but I'd bet it get the most looks.

Oh trust me, I plan to take a very spirited test drive. Although for whatever reason the scooby dealer won't let anyone take an STi out for a test spin. I'm like why would I want to test drive a WRX? I'm not planning on buying one.

Have any of you guys lined up with an STi? How does that race go? I'm guessing from a roll it would be pretty close. I like the STi's drivetrain the best out of the list for a daily driver. But I've just never been a big fan of the WRX/STi's looks. I like going fast just like the next guy. I might be a wrench turner on the weekends, but during the week i got a white collar job. I'm thinking the 350Z has the class I'm looking for. It also seems like a cool car to take a date out in. My Hawk is getting a little too crazy for a trip into DC or Baltimore.

Are there any commonly done, relatively cheap mods to help get these cars movin?

Thanks for the help so far guys.

i havent "officially" lined up with an STi, but from a dig, STi raped me by a car at least 2 car lengths. i have a stock 03 5AT Touring. i say the STi is more practical than the Z. AWD, 4 doors, back seats, good sized trunk, etc, etc, etc. But the styling deinately goes to the Z.

as far as i know for the STi, uppipe, downpipe, exhaust, and a boost controller will net around 30whp?

where in Mont. Village are you from? i used to live there.

Yeah I wouldn't expect the Z to hang from a dig. 13 less advertised horsepower and no AWD, not really fair from a stop. But I figured with the Z's RWD 6 speed you guys have a far more efficient drivetrain so more power might reach the ground than the STi. Could be an interesting race.

I was actually asking about basic mods to the Z.

You say 5AT, is that your tranny? Automatic 5 speed? Do they make stalls for your autos?

As far as location, I live off of Stedwick road. Where in MV did you live?

sounds like you already made your mind up on the Z.

I got the Z b/c i thought it has good power for the money, not the fastest or easiest potential, but when it came to looks it was miles ahead of everything in the price range.

If the Z weren't out I'd probably would have gotten an EVO or STI and would have been perfectly satisfied with the looks.

I would test drive the WRX b/c u would get an idea of the sti, just imagine the sti to be a bit faster.
