i have an 07 nismo in black. last weekend i managed to rub a curb on my back right rim. The dealership refered me to a shop that was able to fix the small area of the rim that had been damaged. the metal was barely grooved and they were able to fix it and it looks new. the paint doesnt match up where they fixed it. so i can either buy a new rim or get them all powdercoated. maybe keep the stock look with a bit of difference from all the other black nismo's.
the dealer wants 1100 for a new rim. i like the rims and dont want to change the style. maybe just the color.
i called a local powdercoat shop and it is 240 dollars to get all 4 rims media blasted and powdercoated.
so the question here is, do i get a grey that is close to the stock grey, put a darker grey that more closely matches the grey on the nismo body kit, or use a black like the body of the vehicle.
what do you think.
im kind of leaning towards a darker grey.

They are around $1100 a piece. And I personally find a place that can match it. Places that say they can't aren't ones to do business with. I had a G35 which had that off silver colored wheels. A place said it wouldn't be perfect if they tried, then took it to someone else the dealer recommended and they had training on how to do it, and it came out perfect. Get your money back and go somewhere else and have them match it perfectly.
Powder coating forged wheels is reputed to weaken them. Members here have posted on their spokes cracking after a PC job. If you decide to do it, go to a shop that has done forged wheels as they will use a low temp method. Otherwise, just go to a good body shop and get them painted. After all, they come painted from the factory too.

I hear varying reports about powdercoating forged wheels. Some manufacturers say it's safe while others suggest against it. There's even some disagreement of whether the low temperature methods are safe.
I've also heard that the chemical or beading process to clean/strip the wheels beforehand can be just as harmful as the actual powdercoating.
I have never heard of the low temp methods being disputed as safe.
nor did my rims have any ill effects from being powdercoated. if you go to a reputable, PROFESSIONAL powdercoated, they know what to do and how to do it. just talk with them and if they are clueless move on.

All black would be cool, but the gun-metal trim, diffuser and sides wouldn't match. If you go black wheels, you should get the trim painted black too.
Here's a pic of gunmetal trim and black trim.

thanks. i went to a local powdercoat shop and looked at some colors. its very hard to match a good black or gunmetal color for the powder. i called dupont and they are looking at the paint code of the black on my car G41. they are going to give me an estimate of what the powder would cost for me to purchase. does anyone know the paint code of the grey trim on the bottom of the nismo kit?
