Default Ramps

Anyone have any input on ramps with our Nismo's? I got the last part of the exhaust coming today, the BERK HFC's.

Then i went to look at the ramps i have now and realized ....hmmm...they wont work. Too narrow and too steep. Crap.....

So does anyone know of any ramps that work, like the Rhinos etc? And get em quick like a trip to Pepoys or Walmart. I been staring at the HKS box for like a week now and its bugging me. I seen some nice ones around the net, but the prices are OUCH and they dont even have em in stock.

If worse comes to worse ill make the OSB ones in that thread.

Make your own. One of the best things I've made for my cars. Buy a long 2x8 and some long screws. Cut it and add an angle to the edge if you like. Put 2 pieces together, and you've got a ramp for anything that's 2 inches off the ground and it will never break. It'll be heavy, but not a big deal to me.

I 2nd the wood ramp do-it-yourself idea. The local hardware superstore will cut them for you. Cost less than $20. You do not need to cut those angles- but they do look nice. Good work.

Does the 3 inch lift give you enough clearance to change oil? I've yet to change oil on Nismo (1,000 miles) and noticed today that my Rhino ramps won't work.

Jack stands are only good once you get the car lifted off the ground. They're an insurance policy against jack giving way. Btw, this does happen. The second time I used my heavy duty (4000 lb) hydraulic lift a seal gave way and if it weren't for jack stands I would be writing this now. Never trust a hydraulic lift!

Thanks. So I need to get the j-stands, PLUS a hydrau' lift...Quite an invest-
ment just to do your own oil changes! I'm starting to see "The Dark Side" of
our beasts! Thank God I use Mobil 1 oil AND filter, which allows me to extend the oil change period to 7,500k! What a pain!!! Is there a specific brand of
hydraulic jack I should get (say, U.S.-made, for quality)? Thanks again.

I'm probably not the person to ask given that mine failed ;o) but I think any one will really do. If you are using jack stands, you should have no problems. Jack stands are relatively cheap and if used correctly they won't fail and should last several lifetimes.

coupled with a low profile jack is what I use on my car, and it's lower than most

I just spent the afternoon building some ramps out of 2x10's. I pretty much went to raceramps.com copied down the specs and dimensions, then went to town.

I did some geometry and experimented with some mitre cuts with a dado blade on my radial arm saw. I copied race ramps 10.70 degree incline and made em VERY long 69" long! Two inches longer than the race ramps design, to have a longer top pad.

Im in construction so...i have my ways of getting lumber. He He. After i made the angle cuts I just layered them on top of each other, flushed em up and tacked em together with my nail gun.

I had a few more ideas come to mind when I was looking at the semi finished product. I used 2x10's, which isn't as wide as i was hoping for. I would of preferred 2x12's to have 11.5" of width, compared to the 2x10's 9.5" of width. So im gonna sheathe the sides with either 1/2" or 5/8" plywood to gain an extra inch or so.

On the upside of these ramps......they can be used by a 747, a M1 Abrams tank, a 18 Wheeler and a 350Z. Strong as hell. The downside.......HEAVY as HELL. My guess is they weigh in at 80lbs or so.

Im also gonna line the bottom with a rubber membrane for added grip. Then give em a quick shot of paint and maybe stencil NISMO on the sides if I feel energetic enough.

Ill post pics tomorrow.

Low profile jacks are nice, but the Nismo jacking point is so damn far in I can't reach it with mine. I can use it on most lowered cars without the ramps, but not on the Z.

Well, I finished the ramps today. No good. I copied the race ramps design and the front lip hit the ramp, with the front tire still 3 inches away yet. I thought i worked out the angles and tested it and looked good. I dunno why when assembled it didnt work out.

I have one more idea on adding an extension to the front, maybe that will help.

Default Ramps for Nismo

I got a set of the Race Ramps from http://www.discountramps.com/car-tru...vice-ramps.htm and even with the 10 degree approach angle, I still had to use a 2x6 to get on the ramp without hitting the spoiler. These are nice ramps though--very light and strong and nice and wide. Pictures attached.
