Love the effort on this build. It's your car, you can do what you want...and if you feel so inclined then go for it. But if it was my car, I wouldn't. It's not a true nismo plain and simple.

Couldn't disagree with you more.

The Fairlady Z is the same exact car as the 350Z, just named different in different markets. Nismo is a step up and therefore is completely different.

Plus Fairlady Z just sounds so much sexier than 350Z IMO.

Hahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Wow, I'm old. Back when Gen 1 Z's were the hot ticket car, everyone in the local Z club seeking to differentiate themselves at the Z-corrals were doing whatever they could to achieve this.

Amongst them "Fairlady" emblems everywhere (many of whom bought them from me at the Datsun parts dept! Yuk yuk yuk.... ) So many that they weren't unique any longer.

Some things never change.

And then there's me who uses a Nismo logo to cover up MY OWN dang mistake. HAR!

all the parts and labour cost may have been easier to sell the vert and get an actual nismo tho? huge maybe, as i don't know the sale value on the vert vs the nismo.
Fortunately, I have done all the work, so I save tons in labor. The very expensive OEM Nismo bumpers were used so they were very inexpensive compared to new from the dealer. I paid almost as much for new OEM sideskirt extensions from the stealer as I did for both bumpers together. But, I have the satisfaction of knowing I have a complete authentic Nismo body kit sans the large V3 wing which I didnt think looked good on the topless Z.

I think we can agree that CHevy trucks with Corvette logos fall into the same category as Fieros (or anything else) with Ferrari logos....definite no. I think my proposal has a much greyer area. Even though Nissan never made a Nismo 350z convertible, if they did, it would presumably look something like what Im building....or perhaps SHOULD have looked something like my project.

Some food for thought.....the original Nismo came with large, relatively heavy rims and the six speed. My proposed Nismo convertible has Track rims which are about 10 lbs lighter PER RIM. Also, the final drive is shorter because the rear tires are quite a bit shorter. Finally, the auto trans is arguably faster than a six speed manual, all other things being equal, from my understanding. Just saying.... anyhow, please keep the opinions rolling in, good or bad, and feel free to comment as well.

Auto Z is not faster than the 6 speed. Your wheels may be lighter, but your convertible Z is 200 + pounds heavier. Most importantly, the nismo's chassis is much stiffer than yours and there is no making up for it with aftermarket parts.

Please never argue that a DE convertible auto is faster or better than a Nismo. Not comparable at all.

Find a Nismo you can go up against on a track. You will not be faster...

Why would he do that? As long as it looks like a Nismo, it must perform like a Nismo! Right? Right?!

Yeah even with the extra 250lbs for the roadster.

OP: I would go try and find nismo rays wheels to complete your 'asthetic' nismo build. You are obviously going for a great look...so who cares about the v1 track wheels and its weight savings.
