Nitrous Question Important!

Allright,
Here's my question:
Honestly, how hard is actually using a nitrous system on the engine? And I realize most of you aren't running nitrous, and it's highly doubtful that you're running it with any kind of regularity. But, I mean, in general, how hard is it on the engine?
And as a follow up question, say I blow the engine on my 350z because of too much Nitrous use, how much does a replacement engine cost?
Third followup, what would be the proper nitrous system to use and still produce serious gains, yet maintaining engine integrity?
let me know.
Thanks.

you could probably get away with a 50 or 60 shot without any concerns of blowing the engine, but of course, whenever you add 60hp you raise your chances of problems. a properly tuned and maintained system would be near flawless.
tho be aware of what your doing and what nitrous is. you will get 60hp from a 60 shot, but only for about 8 seconds of a race. it is illegal of course(hard to hide in a hatch too), and when your not using it, itsjust 50lbs sitting in your car doing nothing.
it was meant for drag racing, which if thats your bag, you did purchase the wrong car.

That's right,, nitrous is safe if you use a wet kit plus a fuel controller..
that way you get it near perfect with a dyno and a wideband sniffer using the recommended JETS and then you can fine tune it with a fuel controller and just keep adding more fuel until the sniffer air/fuel ratio's are happy.
Do not start using nitrous without having access to dyno tuning first..
Chances are that you will run lean unless you tune.. I used the recommended jets and I still ran lean on my IS, but as soon as the numbers came out on the dyno, I just dialed in some more fuel...
that was it..
Heres some pics of my stealth install on my 02' IS300
100shot, wet w/bottle heater..

You can do up to a 50 (maybe more but I am erring on the side of safety) shot safely without any engine mods. However, it would be smart to get a EGT gauge and a fuel controller. Get a "wet" NX kit. If you have it installed and get the basic kit you are lookin' at around $1000 retail (parts AND labor). But if you use it all the time you will pay about $35 per refill which may add up.
BTW, how many times have you lost to other cars? I mean seriously? I am guessing that is why others aren't jumping on the nitrous band wagon.

I guess it would put you ahead of mustangs, and firebirds, but it just feels like cheating. anyone can go drop a grand and get a nitrous kit. It just doesnt feel right... but you could say the same thing about a turbo. maybe it was F&F that did it to me, all those guys strapping nitrous to a car like it was the best thing in the world.
All those guys on F & F had turbos and nitrous. It's funny b/c after all was said and done those cars (at least the Supra was) were $150K. I would have rather gotten a Ferrari. I don't think nitrous is cheating, you just have to make sure you do it correctly and don't spray too much into your engine.
150grand? no way... the turbo was likely around 15000$ at most!, maybe 10grand for internal mods(you could like remake the whole engine with 10 grand). all the suspension rims, tires, body parts, and any other stuff could have maybe added up to 20grand, I mean I am REALLY stretching the numbers here. I couldnt think of places to spend this kind of money on the things Im saying. that all together is 45000$ in midifications to a 40000$ car(when it was new). total is 85grand. and dont believe their ferrari race, ferraris run in the 12s, not 10s, the supra doing what they claimed(10 second) would burn a ferrari by bus lengths, and would out handle it like it was an elephant on wheels. but it is still a supra, tho personally, thats ok by me.
by the way, I do not support street racing or any of the various ricer activities, but subtract the decals from that supra, or rx7 and they were both bad *** cars. the dodge charger required me to go to the bathroom and clean myself up.

Well, good information..... Look, nitrous exists, therefore, it's a valid form of competition.....
Really, it's all about how well you can drive.... Let's be honest.
I haven't actually bought a 350z yet, and to be honest, it's gonna be a tought call, but seriously, if you think that a 350z is going to be able to compete, you better be running nitrous.
Peace,
Me.

if you havent bought a car yet, and you want to compete in a straight line, might wanna get a firebird, mustang, or corvette. put equal nitrous in them, and your still behind in the quarter.
the Z was meant for track racing, which nitrous has no part in.
sure you COULD drag race a Z, but you ever see those little civics racing trying to hit the 13s? well thatd be the Z trying to hit the 12s, when there are other cars hitting 11s with equal work. figure out what you want to do, and get the right car for the job.

ARES is correct. To many people trying to break vehicles performance down to 1/4 races. I myself am guilty of making my 4x4 S/C Xterra fast but in reality certain cars are made for certain applications and shouldn't be criticized for lacking in one area when they are great in the area they were meant for. BMW M3, Nissan 350Z, Acura NSX, even a Corvette are meant for high speed and handling from the factory. Sure they can be modded for other things and be great 1/4 performers but they also shouldn't always be thrown into whcih car is fastest down the strip.

I think I'm just gonna buy an Audi A4 Q and start ProRallying. (www.scca.org)
Thanks for the tips. I'm not that into Drag, I'd rather win based on skill versus cash or horsepower. Then again, to put a car together with nitrous, and other mods does take a lot of ingenuity, and there is something to be said about that. Additionally, to actually pull of the line just right on the drag strip takes skill, hell it all takes skill. But, I think I'm more into the endurance aspect. I want to be behind the wheel for a while, negotiating obsticles, turns, mud, rocks, water hazards, kind of like hitting a hard mogul run....
To win knowing that it was based almost entirely on driving ability with such little impact based on the car itself.
That's just my two sense.

wow really, thats pretty cool. tho one question would be how long could a bottle last? and still my second pet peeve of nitrous sticks, its not ALWAYS there, only to be used on the track, as much as I can race, 99% of my driving happens on the streets, where nitrous is illegal, and its unlikely I would turn it on. but an extra boost from turbos from each corner would be fun. worth an extra 5000$? maybe not, but you can get more than 100hp out of a full turbo system.

I think nitrous would integrate well into road rallying, being able to utilize it on straights in order to kill the competition and increase speed. I highly doubt it will be allowed however in any kind of sanctioned, organized, televised racing. If it is, please let me know. And since it's not, I may have to develop my own organization.
doesnt dyno-ing a car come with adjusting or burning the ecu?
is anyone running an NX kit in their Z, and if someone is, what size jets are you running for ur shots?
i dont think that those jets are the right size for the Z.
would dynoing a car with nitrous let me know what size jets to run or do i have wrong info?
