Default I had my 1st problem with the new N20 System...and i wasnt even driving!!

So i had my 1st problem w/ the new Nitrous system...and i wasnt even driving!!! When i got the Z in '04 i made the decision to store it during the winter months making sure to take the proper storing percautions. I got the Nitrous kit installed by a performance shop named Factory 5 Motoring in Schaumburg in July of '05 and put the puppy away in late November with no problems. Today i went to start the car with the intention of letting it run for about 10 minutes just to warm up the engine. I returned to the garage 5 minutes later to find it filled w/ extreme gasoline fumes and a nice sized puddle under the car. I popped the hood to find fuel spraying from my tapped fuel line (the T Valve) and immediately shut off the car. Since i cant even drive the car yet, i have to let it sit with the problem until at least mid February...and dont wanna risk anything, so i suppose ill get it towed back to the shop, i just hope this isnt the beginning of a series of problems/complications.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is it because of the cold and not being started in a while perhaps? bad installation of the N2O? Any input would be helpful!

I runned Nitrous for about 1 year and never had a problem. It seems install may be the issue. I had the nitrous express kit by the way. Im not mechanically inclined but it coudl be install I think.

If the T is leaking, it's definately an install issue. Try tightening the clamps on the T maybe?

Why didnt this shop buy a fuel line tap? Much easier/cleaner install and less chance of leaking. Good luck in the future....you may want to buy one-look up SPT fuel line tap

I havent contacted the shop yet, but im hoping they'll fix their mistake free of cost. Also, Im thinking of upping the jets to 100 shot as well and adding a fuel pump before i dyno tune in the spring...aside from that do i need anything else? Injectors? Clutch?

since you've already had the fuel line cut, the fuel line tap adapter is pretty much a waste at this point.

i dont think they shop realized that our fuel pressure is at 52psi. you have to be carefull when T-ing into the fuel line. the fuel line has 2 lining. a soft rubber outer lining and a thick plastic inner lining. for a proper T, you have to make sure that both linings of the fuel line slide over the T. the rubber outer lining is not strong enough to withstand 52psi on it own. the inner lining is a pain to fit over the T because its plastic and doesnt like to stretch. BUT with some work, it will give.

what might of happened is the shop might of only installed the T into the outer lining of the fuel line and not the inner lining. the pressure would of been more then enough to rip the T joints apart from the rubber outer lining, hence the fuel everywhere.

i've been running my setup with a T for over 2 years snow, rain or shine without any issues. the shop should cover the repair at no cost to you since it is most likely their fault.

and you dont need a fuel pump for a 100 shot. you can go up to a 125 shot before having to upgrade the fuel pump. some people have even gone as high as 150 on a stock pump, but i dont recommend it.

im curious as to why you chose zex over nx? there were a lot of problems with zex kits and their conrollers not fuctioning properly.

I will definitely mention it to them when i bring the car in b/c its more than likely your right. Honestly i debated for awhile before i chose zex, but i guess it was for two reasons...1) I read it was the easiest to install and 2) i was able to get my hands on a kit w/ a few goodies included for a good price so i jumped on it. I debated putting the kit on for months for many reasons (insurance, car safety, lack of experience w/ nitrous, etc) and even tried reselling it for awhile, but when nobody bought i decided to just go for it. Aside from the recent mishap im very happy with my kit and my choice to install it. My only regret is asking the store to hide EVERYTHING, including the purge which sprays against a piece of plastic under the hood. It can be easily heard, but not seen. However if i had known of controller malfunctions in the Zex kits i may have researched a bit more.

thats an old pic of my ashtray. i did the same thing the first time around. i did a stealthy install. but i decided to redo the whole thing last summer and make it easily visible. plus i had to make space in the ashtray for 3 more switches for the xbox i was going to install.

this is what it looks like now.

Wow, i like it alot. I simply have my arming switch and purge button in mine. where were you hiding the bottle on your old setup? My shop and i went through a bunch of options and we decided on the space where the spare tire should be. Its worth it when people i race think im just lightly moded, but if i ever get a flat im SCREWED! May i ask what made you decide to go from the stealthy install to your current one?

a picture is worth a thousand words. the old setup didnt have the billet bracket so the bottle sat very low in the setin box i built for it. the stock carpet was enough to cover the bottle. since going with a show install i bought a billet bracket and mounted the bottle a little higher.

a lot of people frown upon nitrous as if its a sin to have. cheater juice or baby bottle, etc. garbage like that. that was the main reason for the stealth install the first time around. but i noticed that people were more interested in my nitrous setup then my buddy's SC setup, so i figured if you got it, flaunt it. lol. so when i installed the xbox, i went ahead and redid the nitrous setup and slapped on a duel purge as well.

as for a flat tire. thats what AAA is for. lol.
