Default Thinking about a bottle, better ask the pros first

Hey, I'm seriously contemplating putting a bottle in my Z but I'm still a little leary about it. How safe is it and what needs to be done to the engine before the application to keep it from blowing apart or burning up? After poor Alberto's incident... God rest her soul ... I'm terrified of modding the VQ too much!

as we have said before, nitrous is not a problem if set up correctly. plus you only use nitrous when you want, a turbo/SC is all the time.

i love nitrous!! im actually breathing in some right now!!!

Dont be scared of n2o there are a lot of people out there using it. There are also a lot of saftey features that can be added to a n2o kit to make them even more safe but it costs more money. A window switch and a afr shutdown switch are 2 things that will make your kit a lot safer.

Really? So even when just cruising your saying I was in boost?

Unorthodox-like anything, make sure your N20 is set up correctly, check the A/F via a dyno or wideband or both and you should be ok...good luck.

Unorthodox_Z - I personally don't recommend that you get a N2O set up until you master your skills and your car. I was also considering this, as a cheap and temporary alternative to FI, but I still need to research it first.

I wouldn’t say its cheap, but cheap-er then other forms of FI. Much cheaper. It can cost you over 2k depending on what you buy and that’s if you install it yourself.

I might be biast, but I think nitrous is the way to go. Do it right (and safe) the first time around and it will give you bottles and bottles of on demand happyness.

Going to the dragstrip on Thursday, cant wait.

I'm with you 3hree, I'm just planning my mods ahead of time so I can know what kind of money I'm looking at. Nitrous is still a ways out for me

Try one of these places they have been really good to all the people i have talked to. I would send them an email about geting a kit for a 350z. I personoly think that NX and Harris Speed Works have some of the best kits on the market.

If you spend the extra money up front, you can run it safely and probelm free. However, most people are attracted to nitrous because they think its "cheap." Do not go the cheap route. In order to run nitrous safely you'll have to spend alot more then $600 for a simple nitrous kit.

I agree with the above. I got a used NOS kit cheap from a friend, but after all the parts I got for saftey, I am already over $1000 mark...before install. I picked up a bottle heater, purge, blow down tube, tps, rpm window switch, pressure gauge, switches with panel. I mean it all adds up. Just don;t try and cut corners or it will be a lot more expensive in the long run.

My kit goes in Monday, so I will have some first hand experience in a few days.

Cool, let me know the outcome. I'm interested for real. I was looking into the complete NX kit for like $800 and it comes with pretty much everything from what I can tell. I was going to have Intense Motorsports out here install it and the guy said that a good professional installation runs from $300-$500. That doesn't seem too bad to me. Does that sound right to you guys?

When you say "complete" NX kit, what exactly are we talking about here? The import EFI dual stage is a waste, IMHO, and sells for about $800. The regular import EFI kit with the genX II accessory kit for $800 would be a good price. Spend another $240 and get the remote bottle opener as well. $60 for one step colder spark plugs is a must. Stay around a 75 shot or less until you buy a UTEC or other engine management and you should be ok.

"Stage One EFI single nozzle system

Utilizing the patented "Shark" nozzle, these systems are fully adjustable offering 35, 50, and 75 horsepower upgrades for your Supra. These systems require no engine modifications, operate on stock fuel pumps, and require no timing retards. The ultimate solution to make your import a rocket! Any horsepower settings above the recommended levels require "NX Power Booster" fuel additive to prevent detonation.

All NX systems add additional fuel during nitrous usage by injecting it directly with the nitrous through their patented "Shark" nozzle. This method assures 100% atomization of the fuel and accurate air/fuel ratios.

This system comes complete with a 10lb nitrous bottle, stainless steel bottle brackets, 16 ft. aircraft style supply line, N2O filter, lifetime warranty nitrous and fuel solenoids with mounts, all standard jet settings, an NX patented Shark nozzle (nozzles), wide open throttle switch, a complete installation pack that includes all bolts, nuts, washers, wire, wire terminals, lighted arming switch, and complete instructions with pictures.

To complete the installation a Gen-X package should be ordered with the system. This includes the bottle heater, liquid filled nitrous pressure gauge, low fuel pressure safety switch, and a external bottle vent fitting and plumbing kit.

All NX Stage One or Street systems are designed to operate with no timing retard. Spark plugs should be changed to non-platinum style, 1 to 2 steps colder than stock."

That's the product description, is that the one you said is a waste?
