Default Hard to say goodbye..but not that hard :-)

Well, it's sad to say it but im finally off the bottle ... Last saturday I picked up my Turbonetics ST kit with 550cc injectors, APS fuel pump, and UTEC. As some of you may know i was on the bottle for a little over 2 years (Zex wet kit, 100Shot) with absolutely no problems whatsoever, and i have many of you more experienced members to thank for this. I learned alot before i got my N20 kit from this section of the forum, and really appreciate all of the knowledge you guys shared with me throughout those years.

I went for the sleeper look, and hid the bottle in the spare tire well, along with hiding the zex electronic box behind the motor on the firewall, and all buttons (activation as well as purge) in my ashtray. The motor appeared virtually the same as it did before the install, and i loved every moment. It was a great run, but it was simply time for an upgrade.

While i will no longer be running the N20 to the motor, i plan to wire it to my I.C. shortly after installation. If anyone ever needs some advice on Nitrous (especially my kit) i'd be happy to help, just shoot me a PM. Thanks again to all of you that really helped me SAFELY achieve the #'s i desired at the time! FI here i come!!

Default Zex Jet Size Question

I am a newbie here, so I apologize in advance for any stupid questions.....I want to do the same in the future - congrats, man! I did have a question.....I wanted to confirm the right size for a 125 shot....I did some research and I think the right jet sizes are 52 for the n20 and 38 for the fuel. Is this right? About the only thing I have done to the motor, other than the bolt ons, is the J&S. My mods are in my sig.

My 03's fuel pressure is about 50psi at idle. Do I need a fuel pump? Or am I ok? The J&S automatically retards my timing to 4', goes up to 20' at full throttle. Also have the window switch and associated stuff, like the bottle heater, purge, etc. Aside from a tune, what else might I need? Thanks for the help!

The numbers are .30 (fuel)/ .54 (N20) for a 125shot on a zex wet kit.....I cant seem to find the chart anymore online (it used to be on zex.com), however when i was debating if i should up my jets or go turbo I wrote down both the 125 and 150 shot numbers, and still have the paper. Im assuming you mean J&S safeguard, and as far as i know that will be able to retard your timing in accordance with the higher hp jets (im no too experienced with J&S but if its anything like UTEC or Greddy e-manage it will do the job). However from everything i learned, you will DEFINITELY need a fuel pump. Other than that and a good tune you should be just fine.

*Just an additional point...if you do ever decide to go turbo you will obviously have to tune your car. It may not be worthwhile to pay the $200+ for a N20 tune now, just to turn around, buy a turbo, and have to re-tune and pay for it all over again . Just a thought. Hope that helps! Any more questions just let me know.

Why would you spray nitrous on your intercooler, when CO2 is cheaper and a colder?

Simply b/c i already own my N20 kit and dont see the point in getting rid of it and buying an enitrely new kit when i already have something that would essentially do the job. Plus, i own 2 bottles and enter my car in H.I.N and other car shows regularly, and its a great way to add detail and show to the trunk of the car (as well as the front). I've seen several dyno's in which individuals have even taken a full, unattached bottle of N20 and simply held the opened bottle up to their intercooler (spraying it into the intercooler without the official Intercooler spayer...NX, etc), and gotten better dyno #'s than without doing so (specifially being SRT-4's). While i dont know the difference in C02 vs N20 specifically (chemistry speaking), as far as i know N20 is significantly more dense than normal oxygen, therefore allowing for better combustion (and more hp). Thats why people love going to the track on fairly cool days vs. extremely hot days b/c they get better times than when the air is hot (or more dense).

Go to Dynotunes website. They have a "Calculator" for jet sizes there.

Im 100% positive those numbers are correct for a zex wet kit jet sizes, however im sure the calculator could help a bit to determine hp increase. Thanks for the input RebelinRI...:-)

now zex definitely rates their jets at the crank, their kits always lean to the WAY way conservative side of things.

they recommend to take out like 4 degrees of timing out on a small shot where the other companies would take out like 1.5. thats a BIG difference on the dyno.

most jets are .057 for nitrous which you can pair with about a 31-34 fuel for a 125 shot...

Default ZEX jet sizes

I spoke with Zex this afternoon, and they recommend 32 fuel and 54 nitrous jets. And to be on the safe side, for now I'll just use the 4' of retard which is one of the two dafault nitrous settings for the J&S Safeguard.

I still am on the fence as to whether to get a separate fuel pump for this app....as for going to a different website to determine jet size, didn't want to do it b/c I wasn't sure if different companies use different jets to get the same HP shot, so I just went and asked Zex directly, so I could get an application specific #.

I'm also starting to get a sound that sounds like a rattling (it's really low), sort of like the bearings in a rollerblade, only happens at full throttle. Could it be my pulleys, or maybe something more serious? It started after a couple of months with the kit. I'll be changing the belts this weekend to see if there's any difference.

Thanks for all the help guys....

I would say get it (the fuel pump). While i never did, it was highly recomended. If you dont want to, try spraying it and see how things go. I would NEVER go over a 100shot without an engine management however (and a fuel pump). Its just not safe. contact me or some of the more knowledged members for info if you need more. Good luck with the future of your car!

Thanks for the advice.....I'll definitely be going with a UTEC at some point, I guess...I decided to buy an A/F wideband, waiting for it to arrive so that I can have a sense of what's going on. I won't put in the 125 shot and fuel pump till I see what's going on.

I didn't want to put the gauges in plain sight, but I have no where to elegantly hide- someone suggested the center console, but they are hard to see there. I have a dual pillar, but have real reservations about putting them there, b/c of cops, and the fact I wanted a stealth look. Where did you have yours?

I never ran any gagues whatsoever. I could just feel when the bottle pressure was getting low, or when i needed a refill. Never encountered any problems whatsoever and sprayed a 100shot consistantly for almost 2 years. I would say go for either the A-pillar pod (i understand your cop statement however), or i believe there is a company that sells a gague pod that attaches directly onto the steering wheel councel. Its a dual gague pod that sits behind the steering wheel and in font of the speedometer and such.
