Default shooting a HR

OK, so untill im set money wise to build and twin a HR i want to add some power so im thinking of spraying. Ive never done that befor on any of my cars, so i obviously need some knowledge. Ill be reading a lot over the next couple of weeks BUT i have a couple up front questions

1. Who here is running spray on their HR? how much and for how long? How much did it cost you?

2. What shot can the HR handle?

3. I plan to tune this thing, I want to do it right, and also, to get it directly into the mani, not intake. So would that be wet or dry?

In all i figuring anywheres from 1200-2200 to do this, depends on a bottle warmer and opener, that type of stuff. I really would like a 100 shot, but i feel that may be too high but then I read that the HR can handle 10lbs on a set of twins and make 450 or so whp stock. So im kinda at a lose as to how much i can go. I dont want to spend all this cash for 50-75hp.

There is one or two members here running nitrous on their HR. How long? If you mean for how long should you spray, the answer is spray until 5th. If you spray in 5th or 6th, the gears are too long and that is putting too much pressure/stress on the engine components.

I'd assume the HR can handle the same, if not more, as the DE Zs. The older Zs could take up to a 100 shot without a tune and up to 150 shot with a tune. I'd figure about the same, except with slightly higher numbers, for the HR. However, you should be aware the certain precautionary measure need to be taken with or without a tune (i.e., proper jet sizes, fuel/nitrous pressure, 1-2 step colder spark plugs, etc).

Our Zs, regardless of DE or HR engine, requires a wet shot. If you're going with direct port (spraying directly into the manifold rather than before the throttle body), things are going to change drastically. Not many have that specific set up and no HR has that, if I'm not mistaken. Prepare to do a lot of research on not just the Zs, but on other cars as well, along with your usual nitrous readings (lots of good info to be found online), if you want do to direct port right the first time.

Good luck on all this and definitely keep us updated. I'm interested in seeing this happening. If you have any questions, feel free to ask (as long as it's not something that could be answered with a simple search). I know the basic things about nitrous and there are a few knowledgeable and experienced members here who are more than happy to help.

BTW, it's not "NOS." That's a brand. It's like saying, "those are cool GReddy's," when referring to twin turbos. The proper name is "nitrous," so let's call it that.

Please don't make the mistake of thinking that the nitrous is the same thing as the other types of forced induction. The others take time to spool/build/peak and doesn't hit as instantaneously as nitrous does. Due to this fact, with nitrous, your power curves look much different than your average turbocharger/supercharger/NA curves. Nitrous hits hard much earlier on than others and it's instant.

thanks 3hree. I def know all about FI, my specv is making 525whp on a built motor and a sc61 full bb.

Im trying to do something diff. The direct port sounds way complicated. So i think your right and ill prob just do a wet shot. Other stuff i read on here also says that with a good tune you should be able to pull 150.

So is a price range of 1200-2200 logical? And what type of system woud i use on a HR to tune? The only system i have experience with is the Gredyd EMU, as its in my specv. I dont think greddy offers a direct link with the EMU for the HR.

Mike
I knew about the 500whp mark on a stock hr w/the twins. I turbo'd the sentra wrong the first time and i swore i would never turbo anything again without doing motor work just for safety and reliablility.

In actuality, the direct port isn't all that complicated. It definitely has its advantages and disadvantages. Depending on what you want, it may be the best way. However, I'd think that the max shot the HR could take is 150ish also, which means that it's not "necessary" to do a direct port, but may behoove you to do so. If you really want to learn more, searching for direct port off this forum will yield a lot more answers than I or what others can give you.

Depending on the kit and whether you get them installed professionally or not, you will spend about that much. As far as tuning, I'm not sure what tuning hardware/software there are for the HR, but you'd have to look into those for your answers. Personally, I'd get at least a piggyback or a standalone and not a reflash.

Someone locally here in Houston has an HR with 100 shot. His username is nareg. The same place where I got my exhaust installed, he got his nitrous installed. If I recall he said he has had no issues thus far. I have thinking about nitrous for awhile but classes got in the way.

If you don't know jacksh1t about nitrous, then don't do it. Think.

You have to know at least the basic **** to be able to do anything. Just because you get others to install it for you, it doesn't mean all you have to do is just mash the pedal, press a button, and go light speed.

The stickied thread in this sub-forum is a good place to start. Good luck on your learning and keep us updated on your nitrous progress, if any.

I wasn't trying to "put you in your place," but at least it was done.

For you and your car's sake, do read up on as much information as possible. Think from various perspectives and about various possible situations you might come across. That little knowledge you gathered up on the subject could save you (and your face), your car, etc.

Cool, make sure to keep us posted with install details and lots of pics!

BTW, would this be worth using in the 1/8th mile drag? That's all we have around here and I would like to get into the mid/high 8's atleast.

Why not? I ran a 9.59 the other night and that's with no traction.
