I heard of this kind of computer mode for controlling the shot... is pretty good device and your rigth about putting crazy stress on the motor... also lowered the ET's because of the less wheels spin... what kind of control do you have?
for mj, my setup is a hybrid. I started out with a Zex wet kit (82021) and was using the MSD digital window switch, but since I went with the controller, I had to get rid of the Zex nitrous management unit (solenoids) and go with NX solenoids, but I kept the rest of the Zex kit intact. The progressive nitrous controller also has a built in window switch so I got rid of the MSD. I also have a digitial A/F guage and digital nitrous pressure guage as well as a pressure-based bottle warmer and remote bottle opener. As for my other mods, I have the Z-tube, and Kinetix test pipes.
The reason i had to get rid of the Zex NMU and go with the NX solenoids is because the way the controller controls the nitrous flow amount is by pulsing the solenoids. However, since the Zex unit's solenoids are not directly accessible because they are in the NMU, it is impossible to wire the controller directly to the fuel solenoid and directly to the nitrous solenoid. Also, the TPS circuit in the Zex NMU doesn't respond well to pulsing. THe load is too much.
There are a half-dozen progressive nitrous controllers i looked at before buying. HEre are the links:

I have the nitrous express unit because it was the only one that you could setup the way you want to spray per gear. It also has built in A/F sensors to shut off the nitrous if the fuel pressure drops. The other units have oil pressure sensors and other sensors to turn off the nitrous. The nitrous express unit allows me to program it with my PDA (Palm-powered cell phone), which is pretty cool. It also has a built in-window switch and TPS signal.
Everyone knows you need to maintain proper A/F's to run nitrous safely, but what everyone doesn't know is that the instant burst of power is very abusive to the engine especially rod bearings, valve train etc.... since one second you are at let's say 200hp/200lbs whp orque at 4000 rpms, then you hit the nitrous and you instantly go to 350+whp and who knows how much torque. The engine drastically speeds up faster than it was designed to do.
That's what nitrous cars can outrun most turbo or supercharged cars. It's because turbos and superchargers take time to build up to peak HP/Torque, where nitrous give it all to you right when you spray and then keeps it up. But this is also why nitrous can be more damaging to the engine. So that is why i decided to go with the controller and plus it now allows me to actually spray SOME nitrous in 1st gear, wear before, I would spin the tires like crazy in 1st, because I could only spray the full shot.

I too have plans of using the NX maximizer. Are you using your laptop or palm to tune the controller? How easy is it to install and setup if you are already using the NX nitrous kit? Do you have any pictures of your setup you can share with us? TIA

I am using a Palm-based phone to configure it, although the small screen makes it a pain in the ***. It is kewl though. Some people can't believe it when they see it.
I had to switch over to NX solenoids, so it worked pretty good. Like I said, the instlal went good because I had most of the wiring from other mods (digital A/F guage, TPS wire from my Zex kit, etc...)
It has a wire to activate a timing retard unit so I might pick up one of those, go with a 200-shot, and just pull a bunch of timing off the top. I am thinking I can just set up for the full 200-shot only in 4, 5, and 6th gear, while above 4000 or so RPMs. 200-shot is the maximum shot that the NX EFI single-stage solenoids can handle. That's the solenoids that came with the kit that you bought as well.
See some Z's and G35 coupes are pushing 175-shots like Carlito and he is getting like 403 to the wheels no problem. If I go with a 200 shot on my sedan 6mt. I am already down 20-hp at the crank so I am figuring my engine can handle it since my WHP will probably be in the 380's or 390's. Also, the Z's and the G Coupes have more aggressive timing on to help get the little extra HP out of them. So again, I am already a little safer (even if its a fraction) of the guys running the high shots on the Z or G Coupe.
However, rule of thumb with nitrous: don't get greedy... maybe I'll stick with the 150 or 175-shot.
I went the cheap route for my setup, I run a dual stage NX.
Just reconfigured it so I can actually have 3 stages.
1st stage, 50 shot, 2nd stage 100 shot (after the 1-2 shift, I'm auto) 3rd stage activated a second or so after the 2nd stage (1st & 2nd together) total 150 or whatever you like.
So far I have just tried it out on the street with a 35 in each stage and it seems to work fine. I've wired the 2 stages up to the steering wheel switches for the Cruise and computer buttons.
It also allows me to run higher shots than a single stage as well without going to DP.
I am limited to 50 out of the hole because of traction but I can pull a 1.75 60'. Just getting a new set of slicks 24.5" vs 22's so hope to run a little higher shot out of the hole if it will hold traction now. Test run on Sat.
I run the fuel for the nitrous on 114 unleaded race fuel for the timing issue, seems to work fine. Also run a wideband and S-AFC II for the a/f.

I haven’t bought the Maximizer yet but have the luxury of installing the software on my PC just to see what kind of parameters we have for tuning. There’s an Ignition Retard parameter under the Nitrous tab. Are you leaving this as the default of 70%? Will we need to adjust this according to the shot size?
