Default 4/7/03 - Snow Day - Who Survived???

Chicago Folk

All - I was just curious - who survived the snow storm this morning??? I saw to Z's and a G35 Coupe on the road this morning in that snowstorm.

I thought to myself, I wouldn't be caught dead out in this storm.

Got through it up in Waukesha.

Not in the Z though - it's safely wrapped up in the garage until the salt is again washed away.

Default Oops! Almost slid into a parked car!

I backed the Z into a parking stall (I know, dumb idea), and when I got in it to leave the car slid sideways and came inches away from hitting the car next to it. Wow, that was close! I wish I didn't have to ride her in the snow (the car, not my wife), but until I can afford a beater (car, not woman) I'll have to brave the snow.

get some snow tires and a second set of rims for the winter...I can drive in the snow without any problem at all with my snow tires.

actually no...I have Michelin Pilot Alpin snow tires. I got them in the Z's stock 17" sizes and just picked up some cheap 5-spoke 17" rims.

The Michelins are sportier than the Blizzaks on the dry pavement and they still get phenomonal snow traction.

Default snow traction

I'm considering purchasing a 350Z Touring with Automatic, and my only concern in getting around in the snow...obviously an issue. For those who have them, how much of a help are snow tires? Does it make a huge difference or just a little difference? With a good set of snow tires will I be able to get around Chicagoland in a snowstorm okay? Any advice would be very much appreciated!!

Snow tires make a HUGE difference. I tried driving my Z the first week I had it in January with the stock tires on just a dusting of snow on the road...and the thing would barely move AT ALL. I got my snow tires on later that week, and shortly after that we got about 4 inches and the Z was amazing on the snow covered roads. Actually BETTER than my FWD maxima with all-seasons was.
