btw the photos were NOT altered in any way, except for cropping.
I figured it wasn't altered in ps or anything because you posted in this thread to try to help decide with tint. The guy at the tint shop told me that he would do any tint I wanted, but he did all his in 15%. I saw some of his in the lot before I got them done and figured that was about what I wanted anyway. I haven't really heard of anyone being bothered for their tint locally here, and even if they do, I'll probably be able to get a note from the eye Dr. I'm not worried.

I was also considering doing 5% in the back. We'll see how this goes and I'll check it out again in the spring.

Most places I know recommend 20% on sides and 15% or less in the rear. He recommends a darker tint in the rear because most of the light comes through the rear hatch. So 20% sides and 5% rear will be very dark. But also keep in mind how poor the Z's rear visibility is- especially when backing up at night. I'm still not use to this tint. I almost hit the garage pillar because it was too hard to see out. And i only had 20%.

^^^^ Yeah, I just went for a drive and it's unreal how often I check my rear-view mirror, thinking that it's flipped up to "night". I'll get used to it, though, I'm sure. I'm really liking the look of it. Thanks again for your help in selecting the tint percentage.

dkorr -

I rolled my window down 1 time the first night (doing the VW window trick), 1 the 2nd night (going to the gate on base).. hopefully it doesnt F it up. Yesterday I just opened the door and show my ID, they dont say anything about the tint %age. I just wonder how it looks from the outside w/ interior lights on. Going to test today.

Exclamation Very easy for a cop to test the tint

Now I just take the sub out, but I'd love to be able to listen to a good system for the 3 hour drive.

I'm going to a shop in Olympia and they are going to do it for 180+tax. I don't think I would ask them to falsify documents. Isn't it pretty easy for a cop to test the percentage of light coming through? Seems like that's asking for more trouble than it's worth.
Just bought an '06 350Z roadster (yea!) but my last car (an eclipse) came with super dark tint, like 5%, had it tested by a cop friend. They have a little device that they slide onto the window & it tells them in about 2 seconds. My buddy actually changed the battery in the thing because the reading was so low the first time! I wound up having it stripped since I didn't want any hassle and it was almost impossible to see at night. But I was told that it probably wouldn't be a primary violation, however if they were looking for something to nail you on...
That's my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

just dont do anything stupid to get the cop's attention. they seldom pull you over just because of dark tint.

yes, they usually pull you over for something else ie. bad tail light, speeding, etc.

They usually add the tint if they're d1x

I don't like really dark tint so I'm fine with the legal limit. Driving at night with the dark stuff is a PITA. Plus, I've got lots of goodies inside my car (including myself) that I want ppl to see.

I resized my picture so you can see how the 20% looks like w/ a little bit of sunlight.

Just thought i'd toss some recent pics of mine up...this is with the windshield done...15% sides/rear, 30% front. IMO...it just makes the front look more reflective...like its really clean...

15% all around...i sometimes will roll the window down a little so the cops can see me, but for the most part i think they won't pull you over just for the windows...especially in the city where they have more important stuff to do...like eat at top pot
