Has anyone here ever been fined for not having a front plate? I don't think it's a primary offense, but I've been front plate free since last April and have had no issues.

Funny story:

So early Saturday morning, I'm driving back into town after meeting Barking in Mt. Vernon for breakfast. I'm on Hwy 20, just about to take the sweeper onto Commercial here in Anacortes. State Patrol is rolling the opposite direction from Commercial onto Hwy 20 and I see in my rearview that he flips a ***** right behind me. Right off of the Highway, he hits the lights and pulls me over.

The officer walks up to my window and asks where my front plate is. I tell him I'm not required to have one. He tells me every vehicle is required to have a front license plate. I inform him that I am not required to have one because I have a dealer plate. He was kinda stumped about that one and just asks to see my license and registration. I also tell him I'm not required to carry registration either.

So he checks my license, runs the plates, and it ends up taking over a half hour. In that time a few more cops have pulled up to see what's up, including a city cop that's been wanting to bust me for stuff like no front plate and improper use of a dealer plate, but I'm legal, so they can't.

Since I'm in a small town and they've got me pulled over on the main drag, several people I know see this but not one of them actually takes a picture even though it's almost at epic proportions by now. Right off the Highway (so it looks like I've been chased down by the police for some sortof felony) are me, 3 State Patrol, and 1 Anacortes cop.

4 cops because of no front plate.

is this even a legit website? or is it just a place to feel like you've accomplished something? i remember about 3-4 years back there was a site kinda like this but it was encouraging people to vote on and initiative, i believe it was i-492 or something, regarding the requirement of a front plate in washington. just curious.

they use the front plates to bounce the laser/radar off the car. that's how they make money for job security, speeding tickets.

Well, the stater was pretty cool. I don't think he would've given me a ticket anyways. Seemed like he woulda been the sort to just give a warning. If he were one of those "you're gettin a ticket today" types, he probably could've cited me for the exhaust.

I'm sure they get all sorts of excuses about front plates and such, so the look on his face when I just stated "I'm not required to have one" was awesome.

Since we are trying to get rid of the Front plate Law....can we also go back to having a No helmet required Law for us motorcycle enthusiasts? And while we're at it.....Lets dump the lame seat belt law as well.

I understand the risks involved to me with no helmet or seatbelt, but I feel that should be MY decision and not just another way for the state to increase thier revenue.

I believe that the site is legit, however, not 100% sure it is legit!

Nothing at all....it's just another stupid law made purely for increasing revenue.

i agree. However, seat belts and helmets are reasonable statutes/laws. The front license plate is a trivial way of citing people.

don't speak of the devil.
I have not had issues either. I am also not looking forward to having any either.
The problem is that this is not a secondary infraction. You can get pulled over and cited without any problems. Cops will begin cracking down more, you wait and watch

agreed on the plate issue.

unreasonable statute/law to force me to have to wear a belt or helmet as it encroaches on my freedom of choice. you cannot convince me that there is a politician out there losing sleep wondering if I am wearing my seatbelt.

i see your point, but that being said, i can see other conflicts here.
For instance, should you pay higher insurance due to the fact that your life endangerment increases dramatically for refusing to wear a seat belt/helmet? Moreover, vehicles equipped with airbags cause more detriment then the actual impact if your are without a belt! What do you say about this? Who pays the toll?
