Default i got that boom boom pow!

so i finally got off my *** and finished my speaker box project. putting a 12 in the G trunk wasn't an easy task with the low clearance. it was even harder to get the airspace volume i needed while maintaining a somewhat usable trunk and getting it tuned to a good sounding frequency. i ended up with a total volume of 1.63 cu. ft. and a tuning frequency of ~38 or 39 Hz. making the facade was a challenge too, but i think it turned out ok. here's pics:

ignore the writing, sometimes i get confused

wings!

the reason volume was a problem:

Great work! Wish I could afford to lose the trunk pass-through.

i'm not really concerned about weight cause 1.) i weight A LOT less then most of you and 2.) i would have made it out of fiber glass. wood sounds better imo and is WAY easier to tune

i know how to do fiberglass and carbon fiber work depending on what you're doing, but i haven't worked with CF in a long time...

if you fold your hookers up you don't need the pass through to get em in the trunk

ooooo... i do fiberglass but i've never gotten into CF... i've been tooling around with the idea of a front to back undercarriage cover (multiple pieces) and was thinking of doing the rear diffuser in CF and maybe remaking my fenders in CF (possibly both bumpers too if the fenders turn out ok; they're much easier then the bumpers). i just don't know that much about CF finish stuff like rolled edges and gel coat? if it has gel coat? or is it just clear coat? see... i don't know. im pretty confident that i can make a foam mold and maybe go from there but yeah... would be nice to learn from someone who's actually worked with CF rather than throw away a lot of money learning from scratch

never had to do rolled edges cause i was always cutting them off. gel coat is the stuff you put pigment in to make fiberglass look painted. you'll need clear coat esp. if the parts will be in sunlight, unless you plan to paint them. after you figure out what type of weave you're going to use, i'd suggest getting fiberglass that's heavier and try working with that first. since it'll be thicker and tighter woven it'll be more difficult to handle, but if you mess up its a hell of a lot cheaper. i've never used CF in a mold, nor fiberglass for that matter. i've always made things from scratch. a good place to get supplies, if you need them, is rev chem plastics down in tacoma near the port.
