car detailed, went overboard with tire dress up.. stained finish on wheels?
with hopes of having a few blemishes buffed out I paid to have my car detailed, they went super generous with the tire dress up stuff. my wheels looked dark and covered in *something*, but I saw no discoloration or marks when I picked it up.
fast forward a week, I look at my wheels and their are stains / streaks that didn't wash off by hand soap and water.
anyone have a product suggestion to clean em? I am having doubts the detail shop will take responsibility, but I will find out tomorrow.

This happened to my gf's car and I had to wet sand and polish the lips of her wheels. Heat will bake that tire shine on there. Try rubbing the area with vinegar to see if the "mild acid" will take care of it. You probably have to wet sand them.
yeah I got a little fired up after making the post so I drove down there to see how they would handle it. approached him a nice manner and he returned the favor and kept his cool. totally expected them to deny responsibility but the guy was really up front.
he tried several products.. its looking like he's going to have his insurance company look at it. even said he would pay out of pocket if they wouldn't cover it.
either new wheels, or a powdercoat job .. whatever.
I can't think of another color I would want but we'll see.

Have him buy you new ones....then I will buy those ruined ones for a song ( although I can't sing well )....and then I will paint them Takata Green. I think that would look smokin' with the Solar Orange paint.

the place is McClane's detailing on everett mall way .. same lot as VTR and such. new place, that I had the misfortune of trying.
guess I gave the guy credit too quickly. while I was there, he mentioned he'd call his distributor and discuss their product and if it could stain the wheels, and said more then likely insurance will be covering it, buying new wheels or he'd replace them out of pocket. they apologized, tried various cleaning tactics, and even took LACQUER to one of my wheels in an effort to clean it. so, either way, they ****ed one of the wheels right in front of me, slightly, and I will fight tooth and nail for replacements.
now he wants me to meet up with the distributor, probably get to hear about how his product could not damage them.. ********. he set the tone that 'the car left the shop with these problems', has pictures to prove that much, but cannot prove that the car CAME to the shop with these stains, so what good does that do him? he overlooked my car when I dropped it off and the only thing we notated as damaged was the little crack in the paint on my front bumper.
he's saying his worker who did the detail, who did not say anything while we discussed this, admitted fault to me, apologized, said he was mad with himself etc, is now saying that these stains were pre-existing and he couldn't get them out.
funny how the story changes when he's not face to face and he can have the boss call me back later with the 'corrected' story .. wow. what a punk.
I told him I am not at all happy with his recent change of tactics, will jump through his hoops to see where it goes. it sounds like they are trying to deny all responsibility, but out of the goodness of their heart, will now try to find a way to clean the wheels for me.
whatever, I'll get word out if they don't straighten it out. he'll regret it. I've absolutely **** all over any company that has wronged me in the past : P

the stains are all over the wheels, from some sort of product that got all over them. they are in random patterns and have drip patterns in some etc, it's obviously a liquid of sorts, tire dressing or not .. that's just my assumption.

It doesn't take much more than one "Don't go there" from a member of a community like this to spread the negativity like wildfire. Especially when so many people in the community have (actual) baller parts on their cars.
I also know that it doesn't just stay in the community. These types of communities have overlap, so they're not just turning away the Z crowd, but everyone else.
That being said, mistakes happen, and if they can and do resolve it correctly, then that turns a mistake in to good press.
Good luck!
agreed wholeheartedly. I understood mistakes happen, I went to the shop calm and collected to see how they would handle it, and they were handling it the way they should have (until they called me back). I gave them a chance to make it right in a pain free way, and now it's a thorn in my side I almost don't want to deal with. how many hours do I have to invest, how many times will they have my car, what if they screw something else up then will not take any responsibility?
tired of companies wasting my free time as of late.

How interesting... i had a similar experience with some wheel cleaner but I have polished aluminum... paint is a whole different thing. HOW STRANGE.... what a shitty detail place

yeah it was a last minute decision.. swung by there after work on Friday and asked if they had time to do it right before the drive on Saturday (which I ended up not going to, was scared for my car after hearing the noise from the new diff!)
f'ed myself on that one.

loving em hombre. 2nd and 3rd gear feel a lot better. the ever so feint whine kind of sucks but I think I'm the only one that notices it, and I am not concerned with it anymore. the clicking noise has not returned, was probably a rock in the tire like you thought : )
thanks again for puttin in the labor for the swap! glad you are enjoying the 3.3s!
