Default busy audio install weekend! *whew*

Well, finally tackled the re-install of my audio system. It started out with an amp upgrade, and after three months of collecting more parts, it turned into just about an entire new system!

Head Unit: Alpine CDA-9833 (already installed)
Alpine iPod Adaptor + 20GB iPod (new install)
4AWG Power / Ground Wire + distro blocks (new install)
custom "amp rack" in space behind drivers seat (new install)
mounted Alpine MRV-F340 (front stage) & MRV-T320 (sub amp)
JL Audio 10w3 in under strut tower box (already installed)

It was a fun install...

Wow, looks great, Dan. The amp rack is pretty dope!~ Ya baller!

BTW, I have a question about my head unit.. it recently starts freaking out and the screen scrambles. It won't let me change the track on the CD or anything when this happens. Just curious if you have any ideas why? It goes back to normal when I turn the car off and then back on. *shrug*

Hrm... I have seen this happen to other radios before, and it usually has something to do with the faceplate being loose. Do you take the faceplate on and off a lot? You might try just releasing the faceplate, and making sure it clicks fully in place. I never had any issues with it while installed in my car, though I didn't take the faceplate off much.

I'll see if there is anything to be done about cleaning the interface contacts between the faceplate and the head unit ... maybe a little alcohol swab or something might help clean up the connection.

I haven't taken the face place off since you put it in, I'll check that after work. Ok, thanks! It's not even a big deal, only happens every once in a while. Hopefully it's just the face plate being loose.

You sure you didn't accidentially bump some buttons or knock the head unit off when you leaned forward!!

Nice setup man. Quick question though... of the two dist blocks in that pic, one is fused, right? Bc I'm looking at a similar setup and thought the in-line fuse holder near the battery would be all the fuse protection I needed. Is this other block fused to protect the head unit or something?

The fuse block in the glove box is to offer seperate protection for each individual amp. The fuse near the battery terminal is one large fuse (I have a 100 AMP) and each of the smaller fuses is a 50 AMP, based on maximum current draw for each amp. This way, if something feeds back through the circuit, it should stop before hitting the amp.

Sort of like, being extra careful.

Yeah, the whole install was done by me, in my garage. The only thing pre-fab'd was the sub box, and though I could have made one, saved me a lot of extra time.

Right, I see. But don't the alpines have built in fuses to protect them? Just wondering bc I've got similar ones w/fuses built in..
