Your getting an open face helmet, aren't most organizations trying to get people in full face types now?

Try http://www.pyrotect.com. They are in Oakland. Really cool people and great prices. If I remember correctly I got an SA2000 full face for around $250.00 a ways back so an open face should be much less than this. I also remember the guy telling me they had a few open face helmets that came in with the wrong liner color so they were heavily discounted. I'm sure these are no longer there but asking if they have any deals could save you some $. Good luck.

i haven't read much on rules and regulations but its a bummer if they are most organizations are trying to go closed faced, i get kinda claustrophobic
Is this for most groups that setup track events hypersprite? I 'm not really looking to do autox/drift.

They are more intrested in the snell rating. Why buy a sa2000 when it's no good after 2010. They have sa2005 out now they are good till 2015. There are plenty of people that use open face in autoX road racing and drag strip. Closed face is safer but it's personal choice.

Just make sure the group you are running now and the groups you may want to run with in the future allows open face, or the 80 you save now can turn into the 300 you spend later on a new helmet.

The main pressure is from insurance companies, anything they can do to squeeze the fun out of what we do, they are gonna do it.

When I used to have a sportsbike, I bought from these guys, fast shipping and great prices that I've ever found on the net. Haven't been to their site lately but I'm sure they have the type of helmets you are looking.. here is the link:

Dont buy a helmet online unless you've tried it on before. A helmet that does no fit your head well can be very dangerous. Different helmets are designed to fit different head shapes. Some fit more rounded heads while some fit oblong heads better. You best option is to go try them on find the one that fits you best and then order it.

I've owned several auto racing helmets and there is a huge difference in brand and how they fit. My head likes the Arai gp5k the best but some people hate the way it feels.

Well what I did was go to a local shop and tried on the helmet that fits me nicely then go to that site and order for less...

I was looking through Grass Roots and saw an add for discoveryparts.com
Take a look at the GF750 Helmet GF-5403 SA2005 (open face), GF Pro Force Hybrid GF-5409 SA2005 (open eye port) and GF Pro Force 1 GF-5408 SA2005 (closed). They seem like good prices for some nice helmets. http://www.discoveryparts.com/cgi-bi...helmets_gforce

Also, definitely check with your organization before buying an MA (motorcycle) rated helmet. They are cheaper because they don't have fire protection, not that it will matter if your wearing a tee shirt and jeans but some groups say no anyway. If they allow motorcycle, check Walmart, they sell Bell helmets for reasonable prices.

I don't know how much you care about fit and finish of a helmet, but there is a reason why the Gforce helmets are hundreds cheaper. For auto-x i honestly don't think a helmet matters very much and if I was driving a car with an air bag I'd probably want an open face helmet vs a full face. If you are going to be doing other things though. I would suggest full face and not skimping on price.

One of the main differences beside fire resist between SA and M rated is the SA has a thicker locking visor. This can be important if you ever have to slide on face first on the ground.

Wine Country Motorsports at Infenion Raceway has a full selection, but it isn't the cheapest place to buy a helmet. You can try them on though.

Well I ended up buying a SA2005 Bell M2 from www.discoveryparts.com, they had free ground shipping and no tax so it cost me less than the other places I found with the M2 and got here in 1 week.
