I just signed up for this event with NCRC (Northern Cali racing club) for April 16th...it's still 2 months away, but if you sign up now, you'll get the 'earlybird'
fee and if it's your first time with the club, you'll get an extra 33% off!! (I did this last year, and for the cost, it's hard to beat!)...total cost is around $175
go to: http://www.ncracing.org/th060416.html
***if you're new, sign up and put 'Peter Umino' as your reference (I get a discount for refering ppl)
I really enjoyed my time with NCRC last Oct. They were a well organized club and it wasn't too crowded. They split the time into 3 or 4 run groups, with 30 minute sessions...if you want, you can also run in the group 1 down from yours--I did this and ended up not running all of the possible sessions b/c I was sooo tired (it's really a lot of track time). There were no incidents (crashes or anything like that) and it was a safe day. (Thunderhill is a great track...there's only 1 wall on the straigth, which makes the possibiltiy of hurting your car much less.)
if you want to see a vid of Thunderhill, here's a link to my vid (it's about an hour long): http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...49519130589421

It'd be great to get a solid group of Z's that day...last year they held a relay-race between 4 groups of cars; we could do an all Z group!
*it was so helpful to have 2 other Z's there to compare set-ups and lap times.

Depending on how hard you drive you may want to swap pads to a more aggressive street pad or track pad before the event. Then swap your OEM pads back when you get home. The OEM pads are like butter if you drive hard.
First350- do you know how they handle passing in the advanced group? Open, open on staight only, point by on straights etc?
I believe the advanced group is open passing with point bys as a reccomendation.

they have 4 run groups (Open, Point-by, limited-solo, limited-instructor)...
-Open: is free to pass anywhere w/out notice (but still being safe...this is a fairly agressive group, but when I was with my instrucor in this group, I didn't see anything unconsiderate)
-Point-by: passing is anywhere as long as the person being overtaken points you by.
-limited/solo: this is like point-by but you can't pass in cetain turns
-limited/instructor: similar to limited/solo but passing w/ point-by only on straights.
When you sign up, shoot an email to Dave Mills and you can figure out what group you should be in...I like their set-up b/c it keeps people with similar track exerince together (less about the car and more about the driver)-I was glad to be in the limited b/c while I knew the flags, it still took me an extra second to react to it and I was still getting familar with the Z.

I would bring an extra set! I'll be swapping pads to a semi-metallic (Raybestos R 41's) just for that day. There was another stock Z (touring model) there and his brakes held up for 2 consecutive days...he also said that he wasn't experining brake fade; when I followed him into the turn, I usually gained a few car lengths.
*I also bought high temp brake fluid to help prevent brake fade; I had pushed one of the corners a little harder (no one was in front of me) and had terrible brake fade and ended up going off course...there was no damamge besides some extra dust; most of the corners have a good amount of dirt/weeds around common run-off areas...another reason why I like Thunderhill.
I wish I were there to run this event. NCRC is great for safety. And the amount of track time you get at their events is awesome. I usually ran 2 groups but have never been able to run all sessions...

FYI: If you're new to NCRC, when you sign up, you get a free 1 yr memebrship plus the 33% off your first track event...so the track day is $260 *(2/3)...around $175.
I chcked with them (Thunderhill) a couple years back and they indicated a after market roll bar was required for roadsters, the OEM equipment is NOT sufficient.
