the Z with its fish tail happy ways!
If anyone is familiar with the sunset/richmond area, i was driving down sunset blvd towards stonestown. I was driving to the blockbuster video on sloat so obviously i had to get on that a half circle turn from sunset blvd to end up a the lakeshore plaza. Anyways, i've been pretty used to fishtailing while doing a turn especially in a the rain. Anyways this time, as i was entering the turn and going through it my car just sudden spins out without too much warning and the next thing i knew my car was about to do a 180 if i continued to let it do whatever it was doing so i countered steered and slammed on my brakes and just by inches i missed the curb from hitting my rear end. Mind you this all happen while the road was wet.

lol, i drive that all the time. How much gas were you giving it?? mine never even twitches. Oh, btw, slamming on brakes when oversteering is a bad idea, but sounds like a nice save. You're lucky no one was behind you

yeah i know oversteer and braking is a no no however i decided the car at its current state at that time is not going drift to any other direction except towards the curb so braking was the only way to save myself from crashing into anything.
i took the corner how i usually take it, people have been telling me i take corners too fast or hard but to me its all good.

Yeah, I know the turn you're talking about. I used to work at that Blockbuster about 5 years ago. Just curious for all you Zs that keep fishtailing, do you have Traction Control on yours? I have yet to experience any horrible fishtailing incidents in wet weather, even though this is my first winter in the Z.

I have a base model so i have no lsd. I fishtail in dry weather and more so in wet. I think its a combination of things such as my lighten crank pulley, lighten flywheel and clutch and stiffer suspension, lead foot, power mods, etc.
The more power you add to your car the higher percentage our cars are prone to fishtail.
Side note, yeah i agree with fowlman, generally speaking as soon as you let go of the gas pedal you get traction back and allow the car itself to realign. Once you slam on the brakes it will throw off the cars momentum and shifts the car's weight all to the front leaving the rear to "float" thus leaving you with less control ever before.

BTW: there was no warning, it just let go. Hadn't happened since the Nismo s suspension and tires. I believe it is still capable of coming loose like that though. It would just take pushing it way to hard into a turn.
When it is wet like this don't even think about pushing the Z unless you like watching your rear end through the passengers side window.

If your losing control....... like i always do in the rain...lol.. ease off the gas with a little understeer, and if your pass that point and u can't, dont brake... but oversteer just a little bit and E brake with a little gas... that will correct the direction of your car.. let the car do all the work... to much of self correction from the driver leads to do-nuts or uncontroleable drifting.. plus a 3000+lb rwd car in the rain is going fishtail.. have fun driving...
