Default FI Installations at Z Car Garage . . .

How many of you local folks have had personal experience(s) with Rob at Z car with regard to a FI install? . . . Specifically with special attention to a Vortech SC install? I was wondering if you might mind sharing your install and post install/tuning experiences with me. I am planning on having a Vortech SC installed in my '05 - 6MT G coupe.

I have visited Rob on a few occasions and he seems to be a very knowledgeable and friendly person.

as long as you don't ask them to build your engine, it's all good.

My buddie's just about to send his out down to GT motorsport in L.A. for 4-6 weeks to have the Super Charger installed and rebuilt his engine to a 4.2L with upgraded cams etc...with a 1 year warr. He selling his APS Twin Turbos (not legal in CA). Does not want to chance getting caught by L.E.

Z Car Garage?? Don't know about that.

Yeah, I am looking for a good installation and a good/safe tune on a stock engine.

Last I talked to Rob about it, they had installed about 30 FI kits. I'm sure it's more by now, and their tuning ability has come a long way. As you probably know, they have an in-house dyno, and top-notch technicians.

Rob is a nice guy in person but he was always (or seemed like it) a dick over the phone. Their install was flawless and tuning was good for a Unichip.

However I WILL NOT be going back to ZCG. They did not tune my car to my desired power levels (over 400whp), and did not send my ECU to be flashed to take out my speed limiter and redline limiter when I specifically asked him to.

That alone pissed me off beyond words. When I want something done to my car, I WANT IT DONE. Period. I don't give a crap if it puts more stress on my engine.

How many TT guys are running with less than 400whp.

I will not be going back again.

Pros: Not so expensive (?) compared to some places. Clean install of most FI kits.

Cons: Horrible communication skills by Rob. Does not do as customer asks of him. Does not meet customer's goals.

I'd rather read a post like this from you versus, "Rob tuned my car for the 4xxrwhp that I wanted, and it blew up after only one month. If he knew it wasn't safe, why would he tune it that way? Damn him, and damn Z Car Garage for not knowing the safe limits".

Some cars make more power than others, and most of the APS TT cars I've driven have dyno'd just at 400rwhp and about the same rwtq for 91 octane. How far off was your car, and what were the conditions on dyno day? I'm sure he conservatively tuned it for 91 octane, and it appears you were aware that it was hot when your car was tuned. What good is 8 more hp? 8.5psi is conservative on the APS TT cars unless you can run higher octane.

Did Rob say WHY he wouldn't reflash your ECU with your requests? Maybe he wasn't comfortable with a very young man having no speed or rev-limiter. Bad things can happen when you want all the power (and speed) you can get! Things blow up, and cars, as you know, become unpredictable. You didn't even get her home yet!

Who needs speed limiters when you can jump like the Dukes of Hazzard?

Rob did my car and I am a VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER. I trust Rob's advice with everything regarding my car. Rob is all about doing things the right way. He will do things RIGHT or he won't do it at all.

i agree with devil z and scotts300. ZCG does good work. BUT, rob's attention to customer service is lacking at times. certain things that i ask to be done, are missed when i go pick up the car.

I've had a number of dealings with Rob over the past two years. I can report that he has always delt honestly and fairly with me. I've always felt the price was reasonable for work performed. Rob can get busy and stretched over the phone. Don't worry about it. As a fellow business owner, I know all to well the stresses of a fast paced day. be happy you can still reach him by phone. Trust me, there will come a day as his business grows that you wont. There's only so many hours in a day.

Wink

We've been through this type of thread about ZCG avenue before about a year or so ago. Won't go through it again. However, I must say Rob is always busy and the garage is always full of cars to be worked on. He's been in business a while now and he must be doing something right for someone, cuz his still busy.

If he was that bad, I don't think he would be in business after the first 5 years+ or so. Again I have heard stories on both sides.

Good Luck!!!!!

I don't give a crap what Rob thinks; I am a customer paying him thousands of dollars and if I wanted something done to my car, I WANT IT DONE. Yes he did explain things to me.

BTW where did you get that picture.

IF my motor blows that means get a built motor. I don't think I ever stated that blowing my motor was a huge concern of mine?

BTW my dyno was less than 390whp. That does not make me happy. There are Turbonetic Single Turbo cars making more WHP than me.

It is not good PR for ANY shop to put a car together knowing that it may detonate itself to death in good time.

Did you take it to another dyno? Dynos can be very different. Your car dyno'd at the old Scott Performance dyno would have made 20% more power, or over 450rwhp - does the number really matter that much? Do you make myspace blogs with your car's rwhp? If so, then lie like everyone else does!

At the end of the day, no good shop should be prostrated into the demands of a customer that doesn't make for sound business decisions. Hidden in this mess, Alan, the OP, should feel comfortable that his install will be clean, his transaction professional, and his car tuned to maximize longevity over all else.
