Being a nice guy that Rob is, says nothing about his competence. I know if several examples of why you should not go there for serious FI projects... Even I can install a supercharger in my garage if I wanted to...the fact that he did several, means nothing.

It's all about how the car turns out as a whole, and yes, I am talking about EMS and tuning, for which IMO ZCG is, well, not up to par to put it nicely. Anyone that prefers Unichip...well that says it all.

If you are in California, why would you go to Rob instead of GTM for pretty comparable prices.

ANyway, that's my $0.02

ok lets clear the air... i never once said anything bad about GTM... when i said bringing your car to GTM and BUILDING your motor for an F.I. system would require more headaches.. i meant the build alone... honestly.. when u F.I. a non F.I. car.. u run into alot of headaches... GTM is well reconized for their work.. more props to them.. all i'm saying is ROB is more about safety and reliability... geez give the guy a break.. so what if he wants to go ahead and save you..I.E. the customer more money and less headaches.. i'm glad that my z33 has been headache free thanks to ROB.. and he will be building my motor for my F.I. system, and yes i am aware of all the headaches that comes with all the extra bits and parts needed for the build.. and as far as customer service.. The man is a busy person trying to do 100 things at one time.. how can u hate on that.... stop hating and start participating..damn

Yeah, so is Sam, in fact he is busier than anyone I'd bet, but he will get back to you promptly.

What people dont realize is that there are VERY few TRULY good shops out there for the DISCERNING and INFORMED consumer, and Rob is not one of them. Thats all I am gonan say.

Unsubscribing.

How many small shops make it in the Bay Area?

The original Scott Performance, owned by Greg Scott, then managed by Rob, was successful for many years with very little competition. They had a 6-month backlog while doing 240z restorations and successes of the Z32. When Greg became absent, then wanted out, Rob decided to run his own boat. Greg and his team couldn't make it, so there went SP until Ted showed up to resurrect it. How long did that last? Maybe 2 years?

Another Z32-based shop, called MWS Motorsports, opened in Sunnyvale. As talented as Mike Smith is, he couldn't sustain business to keep the doors open for more than 2 years while not taking a pay check of his own.

ZCG is open for almost 3 1/2 years now. Coming from very little starting investment, I'm amazed that he can run that shop, the overhead, the square footage, 5 lifts, and a dyno room all on his own. His license plate frames say it all, "Performance with Passion".

Plus, as usual, you guys are caught up (and somewhat rightly so) in what ZCG does for 350s/G35s. Have you seen the beautiful 240z, 280zx, etc., restorations? Have you seen the hand full of 600+rwhp Z32s they've put together, maintained, and tuned? These are no dyno queens! Do you know how many customers, myself included, track the fu*k out of their cars, run the Silver State Classic, SCCA, autox, etc., and SAFE TUNES and proper maintenance keep them running?

I guess my issue here is one of actual physics. How much below 390rwhp did you get on the dyno? I've seen 30+/- swings from one day to the next.

Does anyone know how many different parameters affect the measured power production in a FI combustion engine? Ambient air temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, current calibration of the dyno, gas quality from batch to batch, cfm rating of the blower fans in the dyno room, quality of the exhaust evacuation system in the dyno room, etc., etc., etc. (I can go on and on here...)

You CAN NOT compare results from the same car on different dyno's ON THE SAME DAY and obtain any useful information. You CAN NOT compare dyno results from different days and obtain any useful information. You can barely compare dyno results from different HOURS ON THE SAME DAY and obtain any useful information.

The only useful way to use information from a dyno is the baseline run and the tuning runs. The actual starting numbers and ending numbers are completely irrelevant as long as the latter is optimized over the former through careful adjustments and testing.

If you want a better dyno result, wait until December when the ambient temperature is as low as possible and try to get a humid day. You'll probably be ecstatic with the improvement that results with absolutely no changes to the tune of the car.

I apologize if my understanding of actual physics confuses anyone.

Alright we've already beat the dead horse. We can tell those who are for ZCG and not. I can also tell which Z owner on this forum are good personal friends of Rob and that's all good and fine.

agreed. OP, i hope you've gotten an idea of what most of us think of ZCG. you have your supporters and your naysayers. we can only give you opinions and you have to decide for yourself.

both are great shops and if everyone agrees, this thread is pretty much finished.
