Good roads near HWY 49 area/Sac Seirra foothills
I'm finally on a short vacation and I'm taking the Z out on the 4th or 5th to see how many speeding tickets I can collect and try to blow $100+ on gas woo hoo.
HWY 49 in on my list, which I've done a few times but what are some other roads in the Placerville area that don't have an a$$ load of potholes but have lots of turns?

Whens the last time you guys ran 20 to Grass Valley? Cause they JUST repaved and its SMOOOOOOOOOTH!!!!! I will most likely be in that area (I live off of 49 near Grass Valley) and would be down to maybe cruise with you for a stretch if you make it over here. I don't know if you want company or not. Send me a PM.
Yea if some of you guys want to plan a small group drive and we can come up with a day, time and route that works for us, the company would be fun.
I can do it Friday, Sat or Sunday. Sunday would need to be an AM run. Friday and sat I'm wide open.
I would much prefer friday or sat, so I'm not pressed for time, since it takes me an hour and a half just to get to Sac.

Ok well just found out I will be having a friend of mine ride along with me and her and I are going to do this drive on Friday.
I'm thinking I will be going through Lake county to to 20 east to grass valley then taking 49 south to Placerville. I will be having dinner in Cameron Park at my parents house, then taking 80 back to santa Rosa.
I would like to take that Northern 49 loop that splits off of 20 then connects with 89 and goes back south to Truckee, then take 80 to Auburn then 49 south to Placerville but it looks like it would take a long time to drive that Northern loop? That northern loop looks to be about 70 miles of twisty roads that might take about 2 hours.

121 out of napa to 128 to Davis is a great run. Then 113 to Yuba City, across to Marysville; 20 to Grass valley; 49 back through Auburn to 50 to Cameron Park. A full day!
The run from Grass valley to Sierraville to Truckee & back to Auburn is at least 4 hours with a break. Fun but tiring ride itself.

take I-80 to Reno, Exit on hwy 395 to Carson City, then Exit on hwy 341 to Virginia City. Follow that till you reach Hwy 50, then head toward carson city/tahoe on 50, go through tahoe on 50 then, 50 toward Sac. its a fun, but very long drive

That would be fun but that's way too much driving for a one day drive. Also sounds like the Northern 49 loop would add way too much time as well. If my friend bails on me i will do the Northern loop.
If you have time, on your next round thru this area. The fastest road in the Sierra's is highway 70 out of Oroville along the Feather River Canyon. I have riden this many times on a sport bike and car, nothing beats it in the Sierra's, its the tops.
The route you mentioned would take about an extra two hrs. If you can swing it though, take the northern route 49 from 20, it's about 1/2 hr to Downieville. Fantastic cafe along the river for brunch/lunch, then double back on 49.
