Default Insurance repair questions

So bad news... rearended some old lady who decided it was a great idea to drive full speed up to the car in front of her then slam on her brakes to a complete stop last minute

Ended up crunching my hood up, messed up the fenders and a bunch of other assorted dmg to front end. So my question is I've been considering getting an aerosync bumper to replace the stock bumper, how hard is it or is it even possible to talk to an autobody place to get aftermarket pieces instead of the regular oem one?

Ask your company to send you a check for the repair and spend it on anything you want.

Two things:
1) I agree with what was said already - have the ins. adjuster come out, spec out what needs to get repaired and they cut a check. I had this done last year and he literally printed a check out from a little machine the same day he came out to assess the damages.

2) When I've actually had repair shops fix damages directly, they have inserted special parts upon my request. It's essentially your money.

p.s. I have a NISMO V2 rep/Aerosync and Top Secret CF hood for sale in classy.

There are a few body shops that will work with you in this situation. Talk with the body shop and tell them what you want to use. They can estimate for the OE stuff and then actually purchase the aftermarket. Most insurance companies will inspect the damage and either offer for you to take it to there body shop, or write you a check and allow you to have it fixed anywhere.

Thanks for the replies guys. I brought it over to Williams autobody in San Mateo cause I heard he does great work and last time I was over there he was showing me other Zs with different bodykits to give me some ideas. Unfortunately he's out on vacation til Monday

Oh well still left it there cause I don't want to take chances with shops I don't know or never heard of.

That is partly true. In CA, the insurance company will send you the check if you do not have a lien holder. If you are still paying on the car the check will go to either the body shop or the lien holder and you, as in you can use the funds to pay toward the note or fix the car.

You can however, strike a separate deal with the body shop to write an estimate for repairs then you intervene and pay whatever the difference in price is for them to install a kit.

Never do that.

take your car to a body shop. The body shop will look at the parts for your car on their computer (their cost). Either oem or aftermarket oe. they will add the $$ to get a total. The claim adjuster comes out and ok's the repairs. Tell the body shop that you will get your own parts. they will give you the $$. you supply them the parts then they will get the money it costs to finish the repair from your insurance. Someone crashed into my G so im getting a bunch of cool new stuff. I had to pay a little out of my pocket to get the parts I wanted though.

How many bodyshops do you know that will give you money to buy your own parts?

Lol yeah after the accident the hood had come loose and couldnt lock down anymore. Since my hood crunched in, it actually couldn't reach the thing that normally holds it down.

I had an almost nightmarish (in hindsight almost comedic) adventure home on Skyline where the friggin hood actually flew up on me not once but twice (random chp officer #2 thank you for pointing out to me that you are not a repair truck and that Ranch 99 is "somewhere down that road") and I finally it tied down with a kungfu sash of all things (it was either that or a shoelace) so when I finally took it to Williams I had totally bungeed it down cause I wasn't gonna try another trip with that cloth sash again

ps. your diffuser makes me hawt in the pants

Cost of the stock bumper is 300 and if you go after market it will cost more to prep it, and if it needs alot of prep will cost a bunch more.

The money comes from the insurance, not the body shop. the body shop will only give you as much as they will sell the part to the insurance. obviously at their price.
