<<< Vortech Z Passed SMOG >>>
Well I was surprised to get a SMOG notification with my registration re-newal but I guess my 2003 is now considered old
Anyways, took the Z to 2 places and both said that my car was too low and that the side skirts would hit on the dyno under load. So no luck! Ended up looking on Yelp and found G8 Smog located on San Bruno Ave across the street from Toyota. Ed, Ken, and Joe went out of their way and went old school with the 2x4's to get the Z on the dyno and prevent the sides from hitting. Passed with flying colors. They said that the car was actually extremely clean.

Yes, but if your car was not tuned properly after it's install you might not pass a smog test, so it is always a concern when installing any CARB legal part. Having a CARB legal part only takes care of the visual part of the test. There is no assurance that you will automatically pass. I used the Z Car Garage to do the Vortech install so I knew it was going to pass, but you never know what is going to happen when they put it on the smog dyno.

Interesting, I just did smog a month ago and they didn't even spin the dyno.
They just put it on the dyno, stuck the probe in, and ran at different RPMs in neutral.. that normal?
They didn't seem shady about the test, since they kept trying to double check under my car to make sure it had cats..

They lowered my car onto the rollers for my test. They also looked underneath it and attached a device to the gas filler inlet in addition to the exhaust probe. I don't really know what is normal these days. If it passed that is all you have to worry about. I don't think they can mess with the results like they used to. I think the results go right to Sacto as they are checking the car...not positive about that though.
they can just costs alot more like 2-250. and u gotta know where to go
