Likewise, Anthony. I'm glad you made it down - your G is sweet! You can expect huge improvements as you get more comfortable with the course layout and start doing it more routinely. I'm trying to make all their events this year (both for the fun and to be competitive with the points). There were a bunch of Zs running in the afternoon as well, so I was pleased with the turnout. If you joined (I think you said you were going to) the club, you'll get results mailed to you in a few days. You can also check on www.norcalufo.com for results and pictures (and discussion) are at www.baautox.com. I'm "Scotts350Z" on there.

The afternoon session finished at about 4:15, then they had fun runs for those that stuck around and wanted 3 more laps. I packed up and headed home, though traffic was a nightmare on 156E and 101N.

$35 for 4min sounds a lot better then $25 for like ... less then one minute total at the 1/4

Agreed, but the best deal around is a track day. Most are about $150 for 80 minutes of driving.

It was a ton of fun and was happy I improved each lap. That wall at the finish almost cost me a couple times! Atleast I wasn't alone in that regards..

I did join when I registered and am looking forward to the May 2nd event. I'll have to check out baautox.com for other events happening too. Definitely caught the bug! Thinking about getting a set of track wheels and tires now.

I was talking to some of the other guys there and they thought I might have been in the wrong class, but thats something I'll figure out later.. Maybe I'll just go OSP to make things simple.

Depends on your mods, but I figure you'd be in BSP or CSP, though you could certainly join in OSP. It doesn't really matter at this point since you can't really compete for the points, though it would give you a good comparison. I think most of the other 350s were running hig 59s low 60s in my group. I almost hit that cone wall a few times myself! I was a little disappointed that I could get into the 49s, but did manage a 50.9s run, so we'll see how it stacks up when the results come out.

A set of dedicated track wheels/tires is always a good idea. Plus the fun factor jumps exponentially. Even stock 18s shod with good rubber can be done cheaply. I have access to lightly-used race rubber, so let me know if I can help you with that if you think you want to go that route.

Yea, at this point it doesn't matter what class I'm running. Trying to get a better feel for everything and have fun. Though if I stick to street tires, it looks like I'll be in STU and if I switch to R comps, ESP. I was in BSP yesterday and some of those cars were seriously fast. I'm right there in the low 60s.

I'll probably stick to street tires until I get a really good feel for things though. Unfortunately I got rid of my stock 18s (wouldn't clear the front Akebono bbk) so I'll have to pick up a new set of wheels too. Any recommendations on sizes? I'm currently looking at Enkei PF01s and RPF1s. I'll definitely let you know when I'm ready to go that route though.

I like the 18x9 or 18x10 set ups. I used to run 17s and swore by them until I wanted more rubber contact patch, as I was running 275/40/17s. There are no 285/xx/17 tires, and there aren't many 295/xx/17s. There are a lot of 285/30/18, 295/30/18, and 305/30/18, as that is the standard wheel size for racing. The 17s are cheaper if comparing new, and 275s are a perfect size if they'll clear the brakes. Otherwise I'd look for 18x9 minimum. I run RPF1s on the big track, and do like them.

You don't run a staggered setup? Is there a benefit in not doing so? What offsets are your RPF1s? I was hoping to use for both autox and a few track days.

Nope, 18x10 +38 all around. I use that high offset with extended studs and real spacers so that I can rotate the tires for longevity. I currently run 285/30/18 on them (all around), but just got a pair of 295/30/18 that I know will fit on the rear but I'll try them on the front - I think they'll fit. Once I confirm I do, I'll run the 295/30/18 square set-up for the big track.

If you want one set for both, look at the R888, NT01, etc., breed of tires.

Well, there is no 7am class, but I assume they mean the first run group. Which class are they in? You could run in any class assuming it's just a fun run (i.e. no points). What car(s) do your friends drive?

He is right - those are the only 3 things you need to run.

Well, if no one is competing for points, you can either arrive at 7am to drive in the morning session or arrive in the afternoon for the pm session. The run groups change each event, and right now the morning session is a lot longer than the pm session. There is more info here: www.norcalufo.org and here is Sunday's actual schedule: http://www.norcalufo.org/main/index....ross&Itemid=54

I think one can make fun runs in any class as long as that class is not full. Since I'm competing for the season-long points series, I have to stay in group, which is drive 5th group (first one after lunch) then work the 6th group (and final) group. The other advantage of coming in the afternoon is that you have access to the fun runs afterward!

Think I'm gonna run in that 5th group. I don't have to get there in the AM to register for the PM groups right?

Just outside of Monterey. You'll take Rt1 S to Reservation Rd. Detailed directions are on the site.

No, thankfully. I arrived at 2 last time, and it was in plenty of time given how the run groups filled up. I plan on going a little earlier just in case the groups are smaller, so will get there about 1.
