Had my tranny replaced at around 7000 by San Rafael but it's happening again. I've calmed my shifting down a little since it's not like a honda 4 banger, but still getting it after another 7000 miles.

If you're going to get the tranny replaced, get the flywheel done too. Why not? If my tranny gets worst, I'm going to have to bring it back to them and have them take another look.

Well . . . I didn't either and the only thing the z disappointed me is the tranny. I've heard everything from it's suppose to be like that to weak syncros to first set of trannies bad, etc.

At least it's still covered and better finding out now than at like 59K miles and they decide not to do the swap. I have faith in Nissan taking care of most of their customers. They wouldn't want their current flagship sportscar to go down the drain cuz of a poor tranny design issue.

sniff-sniff ... i wonder what's the percentage of bad trannies... Nissan is offering buy backs now... up until 01/17/04.... for some strange reason because they supposedly need more used cars to sell... i got the notification tuesday & called my dealer... maybe ill sell it back and get another Z & hope for a good tranny... :P.... probably not worth paying all the taxes.... bah!.... its such a hassle to deal w/ a bad tranny!

The buyback thing is a scam. A recent thread just discussed this buyback solicitation from dealers... approach with caution.

There is a good number of people with 2nd gear grind. I had mine swapped at Performance Nissan in So Cal. I know it's not exactly close to the Bay Area, but if you can't find anyone to work on your car, contact Perf. Nissan. They are great!

I never heard about the buy back. Is this just Nor Cal thing?

well, i wont be selling back my car... its only 1/2 year old! I wonder why Nissan dealerships are trying to scam us... anyways that's completely off topic... i find that if im really careful, i dont grind, but when i get sloppy and the car isnt warm, i do grind.

Yep . . . you have to warm her up. I also found that it you rotate the shift **** clockwise or counter cw it helps sometimes because the bolts from the shifter to the tranny linkage are a bit loose. I would see if they can tighten that up first before going full into replacing the tranny.

San Rafael Nissan is awesome. I talked to a tech who has a Z also, we went for a drive and I explained to him what it was and he said he'd call and order a new tranny.

Rie and I both got our babees there and they've been really good with customer service. Talk to Jack at the desk of the service dept.

Hahaha last time I went in for a oil change during the rainy season and I guess they noticed that Audrey was a bit dirty so they asked if I wanted a free wash. That was nice of them to do.
